If its true M&S are idiots. The women isn't touching alcohol, just like she wouldn't be touching pork if someone tried to buy a packet of bacon (and I believe in the case of alcohol the rule is about "consumption of intoxicants" anyway). This smells of bullshit to me.

They're not allowed to serve it either, technically, if you go to a Muslim-owned Indian, sometimes they ask you to bring your own alcohol if you intend to drink, because they don't want to serve it (Which is funny, because indians make a shit load from selling beer) But some Muslim-owned Indians do sell alcohol, interpretation, innit.

I've had a read up and there is a very strict interpretation in the Koran that talks about avoiding the works of the Devil (there are actually three references to avoiding intoxicants, that aren't quite the same as each other), but its so broad that I have no idea how this person could work in any British shop if they follow that interpretation. There would be a ton of prohibited stuff besides alcohol in the average shopping basket.

What pisses me off is the legality of these preferences being banded about...its just a fucking choice...every 'rule' in what ever bullshit religous book is simply cherry picked to control the masses and finally twisted into a money spinner for the lawyers.

I had a mate who's Dad had an Indian restaurant in Rusholme that wasn't licenced, and I assumed it was on religious grounds, but he told me that was often just an excuse because alcohol licences were a pain in the arse and meant more inspections, so they just say "religion" and leave it at that. There's actually a really big Indian place off Brick Lane (Tayyabs) that doesn't serve alcohol, so they send you to get beers from the off licence next door...which is owned by the same people!

It's not witch hunters, its people too stupid to realise that if you say something online then it is the same as saying it in person, if not worse as it remains there forever. If you make a racist comment (or in this case, retarded comment) then it will get you in trouble. Although in this case it appears she worked for a racist company anyway (blacks only)

Yes but to be fair the silly cow works in PR. If she did any other job then giving her the boot could be seen as excessive, but if a PR can't work out the saying stupid shit on Twitter (and it was an incredibly crass "joke") has consequences, then she shouldn't be in employment.

On a kind of related note, I went into Sainsbury's on Saturday to get some bits, its in Farnham, Surrey which is a notorious Daily Mail/Volvo driving kind of place.

The shop was packed with 3-4 fully loaded trollies to each till, except one, where no one was at, and there sat a Muslim girl no older than 18 with a head scarf on not serving anyone. I asked if her till was open and she smiled and gave a kind of 'I don't know why I bother being here' Yes. Some people would rather spend 20 mins in a queue than be served by her...unbelievable

Actually not sure I agree with you there. When I said I had not been back since, it wasn't because of him, I don't live near enough to that Asda to have it as my local store, mine is Tesco, but if Asda was nearer then I would go there..
