Meh. I take your point in terms of numbers but the bird was on a cycle lane and looking at rynnors pic its amazing to me as a car driver that more care isn't taken when it's obviously a complex junction with cycle lanes very well highlighted.

I agree with all the points about it being a particularly shite roundabout and have already said that I think we need to redesign if we're going to be encouraging people on to their bikes.

Yep. Me too. Which is why I mountain bike and try to be off road almost exclusively if it's possible.

If I'm on the road unavoidably then I try to ride defensively - but I'm aware that a high proportion of cycle deaths are people who just get rammed in the ass by a distracted driver - so you can be as defensive as you like sometimes and you're still gonna go splat.

Think of all the times you see little dinks between cars. When that happens with a cyclist...

Personally, i'd never use a bicycle in heavy traffic, especially roundabouts, where other heavy vehicles are brought about. Sure, there are lanes that are being used, but still. It's madness. Putting the trust in other drivers when you are on a bicycle, its madness.

On a side note my stupid ass mate totalled himself on his downhill mb in Shrewsbury...ended up face down in a ditch..not able to move below the neck..he was drowning till another cyclist pulled him out..hes still in hospital 2 weeks later..swelling is going down and hrs got his arms back but his legs are still weak..holy fuck he was lucky...doc says thats as close ad you get to being a paraplegic and recovering.
