Decided to buy a good digital camera and a laptop

For the camera I was thinking:
The Canon EOS 5D Mark III

but probably overkill since I'm not a professional photographer.

For the laptop (which won't be used for gaming):
The Samsung Series 7 Chronos

I really don't think I need a full tower PC anymore. I don't play games. All I use a computer for now, is watching movies, internet, the odd spot of photo editing, Word, & Excel. I just want a computer that doesn't take up loads of room, isn't going to gather vast amounts of dust, is very quiet (this is important), fast boot-up, full HD screen, loads of RAM (more than my current 448 MB lol) and good on-board sound. Don't think I need to spend £2000 on a desktop PC to get that.

No opinion on the camera except you can't really go wrong with Canon (personally if I buy a new camera it will something smaller like a NEX-7); as for the laptop...its a lot of money but its a decent spec and a touchscreen (if you're going to run a windows 8 laptop I wouldn't buy one without a touchscreen at this stage - the lack of one on my missus' HP Envy drives me mad). One thing though, if this is going to be your primary PC, make sure you get an optical drive accessory (ideally USB 3.0). You probably won't need it often, but there will be a point when you have something on a disc or a bluray you really want to get onto your PC and you'll be fucked. Ultrabooks assume physical media is dead, but we're not quite there yet.

in advice mode I'd say get a decent system camera instead of that 5d and use the money you save to pimp up the lappy a bit more / purchase delicious chocolates and exotic bacons

Yeah, going to put camera on back burner just for the moment, and get the laptop first. TBH with the specs the Samsung has, it won't need much pimping. Like Gaff said, an optical drive, I'll need MS Office, maybe treat myself to Heat on BluRay (Al Pacino / Robert deNiro) that's about it I think.

Got chatting to some dude today, talking about random stuff. Found out when I got home he's called "Benga" and DJ's on Radio 1 on Fridays. Nice guy. He's into his Michelin star restaurants, houses, and fast cars; I like collecting carpet fluff from hotels, taking pictures of women in airports, and eating left-over curry from people's garbage. We're very different people.
