For my current course we had to do a small research project which was technology based, so I chose "Will Tablets replace Laptops" since it's kind of a choice I was going through before about which device would be suitable for what I needed. Anyway with tablets like the Microsoft surface and Asus Transformer I thought now would be a pretty good time to ask the question.

I don't need many results but I made a basic Google Docs survey, so then it can put the results into charts for me.

If any get a free minute its only 10 basic questions if you kind folks would help a brother out it would be appreciated, just about what devices you own or would consider buying in the future.

Done, q8 doesnt really make sense though. Answer 5 doesn't correspond with the question and it has a forced answer even though it shouldnt require one.

I have done it but I would like the option to answer Q3 for each as 90% of stuff at home I do on a tablet with only 10% needing a Laptop, but I would never try to do my work on one so my answer would have been Work = Laptop. Music video ect = Tablet

first of all thanks for any input I've had 10 responses in about 30 mins so far through various sources, and second of all I know some questions are either yes or no and might need an "other" choice etc; but I just wanted to keep it simple right now so I can leave it on its own to gather whilst I attempt some javascript.

Plus I was unsure of what questions to ask, atleast with question 6 "do you think tablets will replace laptops" should give me a result I can use either way with enough responses.


I just thought it was a pretty good idea as the survey was actually really easy to make and the results automatically in a chart is just great. With question 8 for example that was just to find out if people use ipads/surface/nexus devices, I'll go over it again later on I just needed responses and I could knock this out in one night and crack on with the rest.

Ok I modified some questions, and added some extra options so people can actually the answer they want not just the closest one to what they can

you can say I don't need need a portable device if you have a PC that does it all, or if you flat out don't need/want one.


I could probably take out some options and narrow it down a bit, also I know you had to pick an answer to continue if you didn't want to sorry about that. But I had to make all questions mandatory as I thought it the best way to get answers as people might skip and give me mixe d results but I suppose forcing the issue isn't haha.

21 responses this evening and I can ask some others on the course to try it tomorrow, and I can do theres (if they bothered to do one). Was said 30 would be good enough to get a decent set of results, so thanks for the input and feedback.

quite interesting just looking at the summary charts with 23 responses, 70% say "no to tablets replacing laptops" ; but 91% "felt that the future technology would lean towards more portable devices."

Which is actually kind of close to my opinion since tablets like a Microsoft surface pro *could* replace a laptop just not with its current price and some other issue's like a lesser populated app store.
