The inner ear problem effects different people in different ways. Some people get car sick/sea sick for the same reason. Some people even get it from sitting too close to their screen when playing FPS games for example.
A lot of that affect is due to lag in the system. Your brain is tuned to expect a very precise amount of lag between what you see and what you feel so when that changes things don't always work out very nicely.I know. Personally I've never experienced any kind of travel sickness in my life (I love big seas that get most people hurling for example), but I have suffered disorientation when I've tried to use VR goggles in the past, which makes me think it must have a disproportionate effect. Its less noticeable on predominantly "2D" games like FPS but try it with a flight sim...
