9 billion is sustainable apparently, but again, every doom and gloom statistician has pointed out that having families in developed countries is fine - because people have 2.4 children which as dys points out is sustainable.

It's in developing countries where they have 9-10 children so they can provide for them when they are old.

Same issue, money, same fix, money.
If you watched the video i posted its also to do with religion. A lot of catholic poor countries that prohibit contraception so have massve families.

And in countries that go through educating women and have contraception available to them the birth rate goes down.

Also if medicine improves then they dont need so large families cause death rates fall. And children are likely to survive to look after them.

Lastly 9 billion depends on standard of living and consumption. If everyone consumed like usa or eu then no thats no sustainable.

OK,. so, I think your post is entirely nonsense @Gwadien. I don't think it's wilfully ignoring the facts and the evidence, but it's almost like there's a group blindness to the quite evident issues (so it's not like you're alone):
9 billion is sustainable apparently
Clearly not. Considering the environmental devestation and species depletion that we're currently living through (and for how long?). Perhaps we could feed a larger population of humans, but at what cost to the rest of life on the planet?

every doom and gloom statistician has pointed out that having families in developed countries is fine - because people have 2.4 children which as dys points out is sustainable.
- how is a 20% increase in population, ad infinitum, sustainable in any way??

It's not. Especially when the planet is clearly not coping with the population that we've already got. We don't need to maintain. We need to reduce.

It's in developing countries where they have 9-10 children so they can provide for them when they are old.

Same issue, money, same fix, money.
It's not all about elderly care - it's about survival of children too. The solution is about education, healthcare, women's emancipation as well as having a developed economy and higher standard of living. What's happened in the west is what needs to happen in the developing countries - and progress needs to be rapidly accelerated.

However, that higher standard of living comes at a massive cost - it's not just the population explosion in developing countries - it's ultimately the consumption of the population in the developed countries that's one of the biggest issues (amongst the many). Our requirement for food, housing, fuel, clothing, fucking pointless desk toys and lipstick.

Cutting the birth rate in Africa is all well and good - but that will come along with the above, and a massive increase in consumption per capita. That needs limiting.

So what to do?

I'm totally for targetted tax breaks for your first child - skewed towards educational and health activities. A well-educated, well-balanced, thoughtful population is absolutely crucial to the long-term survival of not just the human race but all life on this planet.

However - I'd also be for removal of those breaks and benefits and an increase of taxes on families who bear above a single child to pay for the additional environmental and ecosystem stresses their choice causes - and the pumping of those additional monies into measures designed to fix those problems. Yes, taxing disproportionally hits the poor - but if it's taken as a percentage of total income or wealth (rather than a fixed amount) then it'd be more equitable. I'd also see the raising of the ceiling on inheritence tax for the first child, but massive increases if more than one child was to inherit.

Action needs to be taken but people must still be able to choose large families if they desire it. But there should be sacrifice for that choice.

Im not sure want we want...do we NEED 7 billion people..is quantity everything..is life so precious its only fair to keep giving it to as many souls as possible..or are we watering down the sanctity of life with billions of pointless people.
Could we reduce the world to 1 million..just enough so we could all know each others groups..even individuals, all speak the same language..endless resources.
Is a billion people in anyway better than a thousand on a metaphysical level.

To take it to the nth degree. They reackon a population of 98 would be necessary to complete the 6000 plus year journey to our nearest inhabitable neighbour or something. Obviously those people would have to reproduce and keep the population going for that length of time. Without getting geneticly inbred.

Its only a witch hunt if theres is nothing there to find, in this case there was. Unfortunate for him that it was not brought up and dealt with earlier.

Think we will see a lot less stream of consciousness from celebs on social media as it seems to backfire on a daily basis.

We are going to end up wirh a pool of millions of talented people who cant get a job anywhere because of something they wrote decades ago.
Meanwhile Keith Vaz is still in a high power political job.
Hes actaully still under investigation..but its on hold because hes ill...but not too ill to holiday in Pakistan..Saudia Arabia..open swimming pools and supermarkets and pretty well carry his life on as normal.
He is the very description of sleaze while being protected by his asian roots.

The puritans take another scalp..though I will say he was pushing his luck.
James Gunn Fired From ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Franchise Over Offensive Tweets

They were tweets from years and years ago that were part of his whole "edgy horror film director" angle; never deleted. What pisses me off is that if Disney were so bothered about this they could have done a background check on his social media years ago, but didn't, and are only responding to Fox News fuckwittery as a kneejerk PR response.

So here you go, salutary lesson for your kids; didn't put anything on social media, even in jest, because it will come back to haunt you

Hmm yes the more i read this seems like a hatchet job by fox news and co trying to discredit him for criticism of one of trumps fanboys

Disney just swung the axe rather than deal with issue (probably a sign they have some skeletons of their own they dont want anyone looking too closely at)

More likely because they're in the middle of a takeover of 20th Century Fox and don't want any side issues.

My Tinder-game is really going to shite. Could use some ghost-writing help for a profile-text. Can offer beer or a reach-around, or both.

Just had a minor panic.

Couldn't find my house keys in my pocket.

Turns out I put my shorts on back to front. The zipper in my crack, keys in front pocket where I put them.

What a jelly-brain. The Mrs is still laughing her ass off. And texted her sister. Great.

Lots of opinions on this..the makeup was so obviously false that there has to be more to this outside of the editing.
