EA and their microtransactions can fuck off.
Simple solution is to just not buy their average games until they remove microtransactions from their business model.
Care to explain the situation from start and up until now? Reddit seems to be in uproar over it, and I have no idea what is going on..The absolute clusterfuck of EAs handling of Star Wars battlefront micro transactions is like watching a train crash, just when you thought they had taken steps to get situation under control they shoot themselves in the foot
But.. But.. FIFA..!EA and their microtransactions can fuck off.

They also decreased the rewards by the same amount, so no change at all. They have a thing of needing credits to open the main chars from star wars to play. It was like the equiv of 40 hours of game play to get enough to play vader.
I am guessing that you could buy credits to shorten this.
Everyone was pissed off and ea got a record 100k+ dislikes on their explanation of said hours of play.
Now less than 24 hours after launch they have decreased the amount of credits and therefore play time by 75%
Might all be kicking off in Zimbabwe.
Holiday?Capetown is very nice. Although I was constantly disappointed by the very obvious inequality on display. Everyone buying nice things in nice areas was white. Everyone serving those white people was black. Table Mountain is absolutely, astonishingly beautiful.

But.. But.. FIFA..!
1. Beta runs with a certain price (ingame currency) to unlock playable heroes (Vader, Luke, etc)
2. It launches on Origin Access early than for public with a much much higher in game price (now the ingame currency can be bought with real cash)
3. Reddit post complains that to unlock main 3 characters you either need to play 40 hours or pay $80 (so $160 for game + 3 main chars)
4. EA replies with "we made the price higher to give players a sense of accomplishment. This post receives over 600,000 downvotes in one day becoming most downvoted comment in reddit history
5. EA react by announcing they are lowering the cost of the heroes
6. Without announcement they also decrease the rate players earn ingame currency (this is discovered and flames grow higher)
7. EA removes the refund button for the game from Origin store forcing anyone who wants a refund to wait at least 1 hour for a customer service rep
8. Due to high cost of ingame characters certain game modes (Heroes vs Villains) are unplayable for many who bought the game because all servers can only have 1 character of each type, these slots fill quickly
9. The game launches to full public next week
Thats the story so far, this is basically being discussed as a textbook example of how NOT to handle a vocal playerbase
The main gripe is that they communicated the costs extremely poorly between beta and origin access, and that the fact you can use real monies to unlock more powerful stuff makes the game feel very pay to win
3. Reddit post complains that to unlock main 3 characters you either need to play 40 hours or pay $80 (so $160 for game + 3 main chars)
I'll be glad when this lootbox trend fucking dies off tbh, almost every AAA publisher is ramming them down peoples throats now, I want the governments of the world to hurry up and recognize them as gambling and slap taxes on them, that's the only way these boxes will disappear.
Maybe its just me but playing 40 hours to unlock an achievement like that doesn't seem like a big deal? Not for a multiplayer game where you don't want everyone running around as Darth Vader (I assume you only get one Vader instance per map?), so there's a balance issue. If some twat wants to pay over the odds to avoid working for it, caveat emptor I reckon.
The rest of it all seems like a total fuckup, but the principle of what they were trying to do in the first place doesn't seem to be wrong, so long as they communicated it clearly.
Its so long since I've played online I've got no idea what a "lootbox" is. I'm guessing its a mystery microtransaction to get weapons etc? Do you always get something in the box or do you sometimes pay for them and they're empty? If there's always something, not gambling (in law), if there are empties, yeah, that's gambling.

Holiday?
Basically they might contain really nice cosmetic upgrades etc, the price they charge for them is always very extortionate and you rarely get anything worthwhile + they give duplicates - either way its a spin of the wheel everytime you open one, much like the CSGO skins, it's just blatant gambling.
Fat bloke misses point.
I dislike Gervais tbh. Don't find him or his shows that funny. The Karl Pilkington stuff was the best stuff, and that was just reacting to a thick person.

Thats what kinda finished off DAOC, finding yourself playing against ludicrously powerul characters owned by people spending their entire waking hours in Atlantis. It's EA, nothing surprises me with them anymore tbh... they do appear to have fucked up this time by trying to ram this one through the door under peoples noses and not expecting them to notice it (because that always goes down well) - I'll be glad when this lootbox trend fucking dies off tbh, almost every AAA publisher is ramming them down peoples throats now, I want the governments of the world to hurry up and recognize them as gambling and slap taxes on them, that's the only way these boxes will disappear.
To add to this! Activision is currently looking at the possibility of FORCING new players into games with people who have spent loads on lootboxes to influence newer players into buying them... its criminal tbfh.
Because it was 40 hours for *each* of the top tier characters which are so over powered they can win you the map single handily if the other team lacks a counter. That also excludes all the time required to earn weapon upgrades and play style cards. It's literally pay to win. You have to remember this is the BF / COD crowd who want to just jump into a game, blast some shit, enjoy some explosions and see Rey get butt fucked by Chewbacca. They don't expect to grind for a few hundred hours to get the full game getting 1 shot by rich noobs with Vader in the mean time.
Ithink a) its kids wanting everything now.Back when I played BF, you put in a fuckton of hours just to get a marginally better rifle.
So is the objection to having a paid option at all? Or because it's too expensive? Or because a single over-powered character shouldn't be in the game at all? (which would be my objection). Please don't make me go to reddit to find this shit out.
