The only feasible solution is still Nuclear what we are doing by leaving it late is making it less safe than if we started this 10 years ago. This generation still needs Nuclear then spend the next 30 years perfecting something that works.

To be honest, the "planet saving" agreement from Paris is so full of holes - much like the science it's based on - we'll be burning dinosaurs for a long time to come.

You've also got the issue that solar panel production is a pretty messy business, with lots of nasty chemicals involved in the manufacture of them.
Farrrrrrrr less messy than coal and gas extraction and use tho.

Covering thr sahara would be slightly pointless as covering even a small part of it would give us much more energy thsn we currently use

Its shipping the power around without huge losses and night time thats a problem

This could be partially solved by putting massive installations in other deserts in china, USA, south america and Australia as well as coming up with some decent batteries (or you know space wireless power!)

That is basically what I said but Scouse went full mental again.

Transportation could be nullified by building more supply but storage would be an arse with current tech.

We seem to be throwing money at bandaids when we should be throwing money at storage tech.

I understood there'd be an increase in albedo, not a decrease, but either way the energy generation would offset warming due to carbon burning. And I also understand that there's steps being taken to heat harvest at solar plants too.

But yeah, a conversation's to be had. I'd taken offense at Raven's insult because of a simple question tho...
Wheres your proof that it would off set and not be more or less than the carbon burning. Or is it just speculation?

Had a wank day at work, got 2 bottles of wine left in my fridge by my ma (she lives next door and has a key!) and discovered that burger king now deliver...this could be dangerous.

Not now that the builders installed toilet cubicles that have such a gap in between the wall and the cubicle that when someone has a piss in the urinal they can watch people taking a dump.

A work wank is the last thing you want to do!

Still, 4 and a half months into a 6 week job, everything is going great!

I just farted downstairs and it was so bad that the extension got up and moved next door. Mum comes in shouts and the dog and puts him in the back garden. He had that "you traitor" look on his face.

Today ATLAS and CMS released their results from studying the 2015 data, which is the really high energy stuff since the upgrade. Both experiments saw a hint of a signal at an energy of 750 - 760 GeV (Higgs Boson is 125GeV).

The signal actually looks quite big, but we have to take into account the "Look Elsewhere Effect". This is like winning the lottery, somebody does it most weeks even though its a 1 in 14 million chance... That individual doesn't have insider knowledge it was just that 20 million people purchase tickets. The same thing happens when you do lots of different searches, one can get "lucky" even with random data.

I have attached the plots. A whole new branch of physics or a statistical blip?

Well that looks to be about 3.5 sigma which from what I remember is a is really annoying figure. High enough to suggest it's real but not enough to be certain :)

Stop being lazy, just go run some more tests. We'd all love to know we have new physics on the horizon.

Are you such a tin-foil hatter that you have to ask if solar is less polluting than burning coal?

Not that, but the manufacturing process etc adding up and if it completely off sets as ifits only a partial offset then the co2 will still be increasing even though you are using them.

I was going to reply seriously to the above but I cba arguing when you're being so retarded. A couple of minutes serious thought and the answer is self-evident, so maybe you should try it.

If yo Virgin customers, you can sign up to get your internet boosted to 70 mbs from 50 mbs for gratuit.

Not sure if you can do it from any higher though.

Pah, I'm supposed to be on 200mb with Virgin already; I don't fucking get it though.

I'm on 70 mb, I get 8-9 mb/s download speeds, I have no idea how this shit works, but that seems more than I should be since I got 4-5 mb/s with 50 MB.

I pay for 40Mbit and get bang on 40Mbit, and it's rock solid as well.

Benefits of not being on Virgin I guess....
