On a connected side track...just talking to a mate and he was asking about WIN10, I said hold onto 8 until they get it fully sorted, so he says his kids school have asked everyone to upgrade the kids home computers to 10 so they can have a seamless home school crossover...which set me thinking of the implications of WIN 10 being some sort of defacto world OS even more than it is now, all competition washed aside when educators are picking win10 as the base learning tool...from cradle to grave interfacing with the world via something controlled (possibly) from the States, only viable alternative is Android, ipoons are unlikely because they are just for fluff merchants and art degrees.
It just concerns me of WI10's reach, up to this point MS sort have had world domination by accident and were only thinking of the cash, but this new free update has to be the equivalent of candy crush, they have in their hands everything you are and everything you do...fucking scary.
I too would like to believe most of it is simply handy ways to make it all work better, but you can't tell me MS haven't got teams dedicated to delving as deep as they can and use the most obscure ways to track and extract information for sale and for profiling, I'm pretty sure the scandals will be a weekly event as people dig into the code.
Here's your problem....which set me thinking
because they have said 10 is their last windows, and of course that means the world will have to mold to it, previously a gap was present between version and connections, now everything will eventually converge at win10, xbox, phone, watch, car, heating, door locks, pacemaker, lifts, atm.Ah right, so the school was running linux before then?
Or wait, no...it and its kids were all using win7 or win8... so nothing to see here.
Did you?

Went there a few years ago. The US graveyard is haunting

Software as a service is the new model they are using. Staying on the new version of Windows used to cost you £30? a year over its life? Now what they want to for you to save everything to OneDrive so you run out of free storage and have to pay to upgrade it. That and Office 365 are where the money will be coming from.Apple have been giving their updates away for free for years this in my view is reason microsoft want to try the free upgrade
Because the majority of the apple eco system runs the latest software developers can leverage new and exciting tools the OS provides, compare that to last few iterations of windows and devs have been targetting lowest common denominator meaning all the neat work being done by microsoft is not being used at all
Oh and of course they will likely try to hold your pc hostage with some sort of pay wall for security updates or some such (which will fail epically )
I think an 8 year old could have predicted this..but the gravy train musn't be stopped.

That's really a function of people getting burned in the past and wanting to pin workmen down to the job they want off them...I get replies like..'thankyou for your quote..could you just confirm in writing the positioning of the gas pipe in relation to the outside guttering I have highlighted in attached image A.'
I have such an issue with Office, and it's not to do with it's cost or code, it's just that these technologies allow any idiot to look professional, which kinda undermines the while concept of what it means.
No one is impressed anymore by a fancy website or a letter that looks like a corporate clerical centre produced it, simply because Johnny noteeth could have banged it out on his 30 quid printer.
But what they do is up the ante, everyone I quote for now expects a word doc emailed to them, full of bullshit pseudo lawyer speak.

I get round and the person sending me the replies is in pyjamas at 2pm.
Everyone's a frickin closet corporate liason manager now because you can bullshit electronically.
