My first 'smartphone' was a Casio EM500 connected by lead to a Nokia 5 series phone using diallup, I could surf the early mobile websites on that setup better than I can now using my Note3, the mobile web is becoming infested with bloat...javascript..endless navigational popups and utterly uneccessary scripts to display simple images , even this site has that annoying top/bottom box that only goes away when I disable javascript, but then I can't edit posts????

The general consensus from the books is that he isn't dead or he's coming back. It just seems a bit unlikely that there would be no POV characters based at the Wall. Best guess is Melisandre brings him back or he warged into Ghost, although there's not been much of him doing that in the show
