Because it's true, the enormous chain of factories, supporting industries, transportation, loss of forests for meat production, the effect of the packaging rotting in landfills, mean that the calories you use to walk have cost the 'Earth' far more than simply taking oil out of the ground and burning it, if we all grew veg in the back garden that would be much be better, that's why also a large dog in it's lifetime produces more Co2 than a small car.
This.. Just.. Wow.. Are you serious? You can't be serious.. Am I Sheldon Cooper? Is this sarcasm or irony?

The thing about oil and fossil fuels is that they are reserves. Much like forests, they store CO2. If we burned down all the forests and trees around the globe we'd probably die of CO2 poisoning rather than insufficient oxygen. By pumping up oil, burning it and letting it back out into the atmosphere simply adds to the overall net amount of CO2.

A dog breathing will not harm the environment in any way, on the contrary. Plants absorb that teeny tiny amount of co2 that all living creatures around the globe emits. A surplus of co2 means it will be stored in the atmosphere

I can't see how people are not open to using renewable energy? Is it really that complicated?

Most people are, but the technology just isn't there yet to abandon other sources...which is what the likes of @Scouse want.

The best solution all round would be to go nuclear for the next 50 years or so, supplemented by research both in viable renewable energy (not the knee jerk reaction bollocks we have now that produce very little energy and only at times we cannot control, tidal, solar, wind etc) and fission.

How on earth you manage to get your sphincter to make sounds approximating human speech is a mystery. You should go on Britain's Got Talent.

Only you could suggest that driving a car uses less energy than riding a bicycle.
You got the wrong end i think.. He said that the lettuce had used so much power and generated so much co2 coming from nigeria or kenya that the power to take yr car to the supermarket was inconsequential. I think thats where he was getting at.

So then you eat that lettuce or piece of lamb from new zealand thats come via air freight. And suddenly the energy to power your body has taken all that co2 on itself.

Donno if its anything comparable to the co2 made by a supermarket trip. But you over simplify to make ridicule.

Its not the dog breathing its the energy and such made to make his tin of chow.

I have no idea about the comparison figures but its not the breathing thing.

But if we eat local food and seasonally we would save food miles and be more sustainable :).

It's not just the frickin breathing, but the entire infastructure, dogs 'cost' as much co2 as a car because of the beef that is used in their dog food, the trees get cut down for the cows, they fart methane, the offal is transported around the world, you can't isolate just the simple resperation.
The people who drive to work in the printing factory for the packaging, retailers, warehouses, salesmen driving around the country, you may think I'm being purile but compared to your dog eating a wild rabbit it caught, we have literally millions of people supplying our food, all driving cars to work, turning on the lights, heating etc...etc, all to get a loaf in your Tesco Express.
So when you go for a five mile run you may only produce a small amount of co2, but the food you are burning to make it has allready produced hundreds of times more before you eat it.

Yep - the carbon deficit for owning a pet dog is quite high however.

Anyway - @TdC - Skyrim is getting better by the second eh? :)

yes, I basically have my skyrim set up to be a BDSM dungeon. I run it on my 2800W consuming PC, and by not leaving my home I save millions of trees yearly :D

I'm spoilering this to avoid offending peoples' sensibilities (it's not big size-wise but it's pretty huge dimension-wise).

Also, this:
DO NOT TRY THIS.

If you enter in a valid username (where oh where could you get valid usernames? Maybe https://twitter.com/BetfairHelpdesk/with_replies ?) it'll ask you to then click a button to send a reset password email.

THEY HAVE EMAIL ADDRESS IN HIDDEN FORM FIELD. IT IS CHANGEABLE VIA DEVELOPER TOOLS. WHATEVER EMAIL ADDRESS YOU ENTER WILL RECEIVE A RESET PASSWORD EMAIL.

This email will have a unique link, asks you date of birth and another private question, like father's name.

Then you can reset password.

AVOID THIS COMPANY LIKE THE PLAGUE.

tl:dr; don't tell anybody your BetFair username.

Sort it out @Chilly (if you even still work there).

That is actually fucking amazing.

Beyoooooooond me.

Thing is though, the worst you could do is withdraw money into their bank accounts or make stupid bets maybe?

I pressed "Save as PDF" on my research paper about 20 minutes ago. It's done. I should be happy, but I just feel old and tired really.

You could straight up convert this a car. I read somewhere that a Citroen C1 costs 6 tonnes co2 emission. If you think a dog is worse for the climate than a fuel consuming car, I find it hard to have a discussion with you

Yes. Let's make this as public as possible so that more people know about it and can abuse it before it's fixed.

Just like wow morons posting about exploits.
