The water is in movement, anything moving in a shot will be blurred if the exposure is long enough.

Clearly by the fact that the stationary objects have natural colour, that is how long the exposure needed to be.

I think I agree though. I don't really like long exposure on water to make it look milky. That said, longer shutter speed is not a post processing effect.

Then the natural light was not right for the picture to be taken then. Wrong time of the day, too much cloud cover, whatever else.

Or sorry. ABSOLUTELY PERFECT /RIM

I like it. I often find that you lose the sense of movement if the water is completely sharp.

To those that thinks some of G's stuff looks daft, or is overedited, do you think the same of my stuff?

Because I can guarentee to you I do far more post-processing that he does. I'm forced to, as my skill level isn't as high and my equipment a mere shadow of what he uses.

Or the lighting was exactly right for the shot he had in mind?

I think I prefer your two black and white ones to his stuff, yeah. But his little pier one and the bridges are pretty awesome.

I didn't say the entire picture was daft. I said the water effects at the bottom of the picture looked daft. It doesn't look like water, it looks more like icing or something. The scene itself would benefit from water that actually looks like water.

This is your opinion which you're perfectly entitled to like any art forms.

I think it's ignorant to start saying that's too edited, too fake or had too much photoshopping without having any evidence to that effect.

Every single digital photograph is post-processed, even if you don't touch it in Photoshop. The camera will take a raw sensor image and various in-camera settings (saturation, contrast, tone-curve and sharpening) will be applied and the resulting image will be a jpg and not what you actually took. Most enthusiasts work with RAW and do their own "digital developing" to pull more detail, dynamic range and contrast out of their images. There is nothing more to the past three shots I posted other than I used a heavy filter to smooth the water out which you clearly don't like. There is no other magic going on.

Post processing development in Photoshop is the modern equivalent of the darkroom.

I didn't even mention photoshopping. except to say some sort of splice would look really good for that shot... Long exposure on the clouds, standard for the water.

I just snap whatever I feel like! Not had any incidents yet, but I doubt I would be a cunt if they were in obvious distress.

Was more interested if people think mine don't look "over edited" as a comparison. Mainly to highlight that you shouldn't judge an image on how much you think it's been edited by looking at it - because you're probably wrong.

If you can, it's often worth getting a small project together as sometimes images work best as part of a cohesive group. Nothing 'fancy' - sometimes just a selection of images taken from a walk or a bus ride etc e.g. a walk across a Welsh hillside to see the Ystumcegid burial chamber last month (all taken with a GF2 & 14-42mm) >> Ystumcegid 2011 - milouvision's posterous

Although video, similar idea >> London Bus Tour on Vimeo

Nice, I'm interested in learning how to use my video recording mode properly but one step at a time.
