If you could bring back the old days of RvR, would you? And why?

well i voted no, simply because this whole "old dayz" thingy i think is only emotional. if the old dayz where like now (aka mls/rp boost/nf/ etc) we would stil miss em and want em back.

the only thing i would like from the old days, is the server population, i think this is what changes the game most. lots of huge realm fights in the old days, that if still existed tbh,it would make little difference if we do a relic raid with mls or without. it is the community and it's actions that really changes the game, more than u can think of tbh.

Isn't that what made most people leave ? MLs, Artis, class imbalances ? Even in the old days with the mile gate campers and zergs, the was still more respect going around then than there is now. Why do you think that is ?

i am fairly sure there were little fluffy bunnies bobbing about emain, if you looked carefully behind all the adding and zerging. the only thing thats changed is there are no little fluffy bunnies :(

Yes I would, simply because, as big a fuck up as ToA and most expansions are, its NF thats really spoilt the game.

The layout, the zones, the oceans, the stupid 'to steep to climb' zones, its all a big mess.

They meant well, the rope bridges, canyons etc, you can SEE what they intended, but it just does not work due to player mentality, you have to force people to travel to get them to make use of the wonderful terrain layouts, and right now there is no incentive to bother.

With old frontiers, you had to travel and you had a realm for the kind of rvr you liked. Remove the mile gates and it would of been perfect.

I miss everything from classic DAoC - SI, all those good memories, I liked odin's gate and mid front really well, forest sauvage, emain.
I miss the MG's, the way everyone had to run to get to places, you could take them down on the way, now everyone ports to one place, and they move 6000units to a bridge, and camp there. people camped mg's aswell, but I liked them better. and I hate water in DAoC:>

YES:
1) Always new ppl to meet
2) Always friends online
3) Always enemies in emain
4) Nobody really cared about equipment, as long as they had their epics, everything was gonna be ok :D
5) Everybody were noobs

NO:
1) I like the expansions
2) I like NF, because of the many options rvr has todays
3) I understand the game, which, for me, makes me enjoy the game much more
4) I know a great deal of the albion community, who I like and who I don't like
5) I know the enemies playing today.. Who to respect and who to INSTANTLY add on /wave @ Pip <3 :D
6) Ging abuses me every now and then and that makes me wanna stay in the present time!

Therefor: No! I like it as it as, although the game is slowly getting to its end :(

Or when svg groups ran around chain farming everything?

The adding and zerging was exactly the same in the old days, probably to an even greater extent than it is at the moment.

The difference is the zergs moved instead of just standing at a bridge.

Get rid of the porting in NF completely and you'd have a great game tbh. Yeah it would take a while to get places, but it would actually be worth it when you got there, and no worse than the 15 min ports used to be. You could still boat to the other realms, there just wouldn't be the same use in camping the bridge that you dropped next to.

Depends what you mean by "old days" really.

If you mean pre SI then yes please, rvr when no-one (or hardly anyone) was 50 was superb fun because thats all it was, fun. None of this template must-be-perfect-spec/template bullshit that wrecked the game.

Anything post-SI, no thanks. The current rvr is better than the bottleneck zergfests of milegate camping and huge stealth zergs that infested old emain.

Rose-tinted glasses imo as regards OF, been said a hundred times before, if you honestly played it, it was not actually that great (yes please, I really loved to run all the way from the pk to the bowl to be zerged by 100+ albs, or for hibs, run all the damn way from DL to emain to be zerged by 100+ albs or a stealthzerg sat outside DL if you were lucky).

I miss getting ganked by a fg camping the North Hill outside ligen.

I miss running to emain & getting rogered by stealthers at the beetle log, or getting rogered by BD's at raemons tower.

I miss all the old 1rp for a kill whine if you got boshed by Raemon on the way to emain (hello 3 zone aggro radius).

I miss the fights with Bigchief (when i could actually win 1 out of 5).

I miss the original alb ninja keep takes.

And i really miss the stealth zergs at the old Amg & Mmg, especially the Rambo / Evita (orignal) crew.

/sigh

the good old days, so many memories & so many more :)

from SB's viewpoint

pre-1.62 - yes plz
1.62-1.69 - nothx

in 1.62 LA GRs were nerfed, SBs lost ~25% of melee dmg.

and during 1.62-1.69 period we had to live with it somehow - while NSs had 5sec offevade stun and Avoid Pain RA - along with Wild Arcana, and Infis had 9sec offevade Dfang stun. And worse of all - Purge was on 30 min timer....

i just miss the people. been a long, long time since i played, discounting the time i played pvp a year ago, but i'd agree with the rose-tinted-glasses comments. not to say i think the game is better now, just there's always been plus and minus points about every 'incarnation' of daoc. yes, i miss roaming old emain, but no - i don't miss the mg camping, the savage assist trains and 21 buff cheatorz (or whatever the fuck the cheat was). i do, however, miss everyone i used to play with in those days, and i think that's the main issue. still, people move on, whatever. at the end of the day, it's just a game.

I miss the OF layout and zones... more or less Alb/Hib/Mid looks the same now, that's silly.

Waiting for port on the pad was sometimes boring... but seeing others pop up there from /rel and having 40+ ppl ALWAYS waiting there at primetime was great.

I like the expansions for the chance to DIVERSE characters... unfortunately it didn't happen... only some or even one FOTM setup per class is played at the most :(

When was the last time you bought a HP/power/endu heal crystal? Allow these to work in RvR and no BB's please. I have the feeling everybody and his grandpa runs with a backpack full of potions/barrels etc. - klink-klonk-klink... through the RvR zone. Darnit! If you are OOP or OOE - that's the game!

So well... can't really decide... a good mixture would prolly fit me best.

a decent player base is missing tbh.
milegates in OF were a pain in the ass and i think soloing, 8vs8 and stuff were impossible in the early days.
but nf fucked it a bit up. the terrain is too huge for this amount of players and it you be shrinked by 30-40%.
a nice patch would be one big rvr zone with porterkeeps for every realm.
moreover they should continue the clustering with existing european servers. the uk cluster is so damn international already, noone would really care, if the clustering with a german or french server would continue.
future would look much more bright, if this would be possible. everytime i log up, i see that the german server avalon alone has 1800 people online primetime, which makes me a bit sad.

anyone got some informations, if this is technically possible, to cluster with european mainland?

Glastonbury nearly had it right except for the FUCKING RETARDED buffbot idea and for NF being the rvr zone . You could still get your 101 stats as I wouldnt want to play any server with 75/75 anything now .

That is prolly the biggest pile of garbage ive read in a long time, more respect in OF? ye if the motto if its red its dead is respect then sure. if fair fg vs fg without adds and a fair 1v1 without adds then hell no.
