I'll give this a go just to see how they do, assuming they have the rights for the opening race. I'm packing in the Sky Sports/HD subscription this year so it will either be Channel 4 or dodgy streams from here on in.

Will Channel 4 get live races?

Yes, same deal as with the beeb I believe. Channel 4 will have Bahrain, Spain, Europe (Azerbaijan), Britain, Hungary, Belgium, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico and Abu Dhabi as its live broadcasts (with no ad breaks).

The new quali sounds fun.

I agree - let's see what the teams think after they run some simulations on it, but I think it could be good. I think this season may shape up to be a bit of a classic, if not at the front as Mercs look unbreakable in testing and have openly said they're not going anything like their fastest in testing so far. Behind them, and possibly Ferrari too, we could see an almighty collection of 'midfield' runners in the mix. Even the Haas looks to have some good pace, and the Manor has Merc power now and is much closer to the rest. Interesting times :)

It does sound good but therein lies the tragedy, the race day is just as likely to be as boring as last year.

New quali is bollocks.

There's no time for drivers near the bottom to react and this is one of the shorter laps of the season. No cars on the track for the last 2 minutes of Q2 and pole decided with over 3 minutes left of Q3. And ffs let the drivers finish whatever lap they're on.

It's not workable in its current form.

Nothing wrong with trying new things imo, they tried it - it sucked - they're changing it.

But, according to what Brundle and co said today, they knew it was going to suck because clever people from most of the teams predicted exactly what was going to happen (ie no cars out at the end of Q3). At least the principals are putting their hands up and admitting that they got it wrong, though.

If they came up with the best new qualifying system ever devised - half the teams and drivers would say it sucks because they're resistant to change.

They just have to try stuff and ditch it if it doesn't work, it's not like it ruined the qualifying order - only the excitement for viewers.

Good recovery from Hamilton after a pretty awful start. Ferrari really dropped the ball with tyre choice on that red flag. Kimi give zero fucks about nearly being on fire. Verstappen needs to chill. Alonso was incredibly lucky to walk away from this...

Good race, Verstappen has a potty mouth, Alonso loses one of his luckboxes, and Ferrari need a new strategy team.

Ecclestone should be "removed".
MotoGP has been on BT Sports only for ages (except highlights), which I don't have, but still manage to watch it ;)

Yeah was just reading it on the Beeb, it isn't that surprising once Sky started to get involved although there were claims the agreement with the teams required it on terrestrial TV due to things like sponsorship. Who knows perhaps by 2019 the racing might actually be worth paying for but it certainly isn't at the moment nor has it been for a while, I mean I'm much more impressed by things such as the TT.
