The fact that the XP bonus is undisclosed makes me feel like it'll be underwhelming at best. :p

I've heard 10% mentioned..

I don't really mind too much if it's shit, mainly got the pre order for the race/faction bonus

If the rumours are correct and you can multi-mara, then you are fine as long as two of you guys have an imperial edition. Every ring of mara is actually a set of two (for both parties).

Not sure if I'm going to bother too much with the upcoming beta weekend. I've seen what I need to and Imperial Edition is already preordered. I'll check out the EU megaserver to make sure AvA isn't the lag disaster of playing NA on the previous beta weekend but that's probably all.

Can someone explain to me whether I should buy this?

I played to 3 in a beta and felt a bit underwhelmed. Does it get better?
What is PvP like? I'm going to give it another shot this weekend and see how it is but I want someone who is excited to come and tell me why I should buy it because its so brilliant?!

I'm still broadly undecided on whether I think it will be good in the long-term and/or at end-game but for me the major positives that convinced me to pre-order (although a big part of it was personal in that a bunch of ex-DAoC buddies are coming back to play it with me) are as follows:

- Huge open world PvP zone meaning 1) PvP isn't saturated/dvided by arenas/scenarios and 2) The action doesn't condense into one big zerg fight over one objective
- Three realms, nuff said
- Game mechanics allow small groups to combat zergs to an extent
- Ability system and game mechanics are imo really well put together and balanced between having decent levels of CC and not alienating spergs who 'hate losing control' of their character.

The world feels worth exploring. Been a while since I could say that about an MMO.
I'll be better able to answer about PvP after the weekend. My first experience of PvP was really good but last beta weekend it was a clusterfuck of lag hell and utterly unplayable. Basically its DAoC with different names on things, better graphics and slightly different game mechanics. Siege weapons are a joy to use rather than a painful experience. You can't take keeps without siege so not thwacking away at doors for hours while nobody notices what's going on.
Customization is pretty nice although most characters look almost the same. None of that is apparent in the very early levels though.
Levelling is slow compared to other games but I don't mind that. There's so many nooks and crannies to explore the xp almost takes care of itself. If you don't like exploring and nosing around then there is much indeed to hate in the PvE world.
Public dungeons are great. Bit like the Public groups in WAR except its an instance, any number of players can wander in, there's an actual quest/story so it feels like there's a point to hitting the mobs in there and some nice loot at the end.
Only played one proper 4-player dungeon (Spindle) and it was quite good fun.
Mounts are quite nicely done. You start with a slow crappy one and feed it every day. Depending on what you feed it, it gets better at something - faster, or able to carry more stuff and sprint for longer, or more able to withstand damage before being dismounted.
The grouping system is a dog turd of bad design.
The interface is basic, and that's being kind. However, they seem to allow mods so at some point the user-base will probably take care of that.
The beer beside my keyboard tastes just as good while playing this as any other game.

Once you get past the start of the game it is actually quite good. It's not daoc-amazing, but it's certainly worth playing, if the cost isn't an issue (£50+subs or something silly). It still has the feeling of Elder Scrolls games, but obviously has to change some things to work as an MMO. PvP can be fun; better than GW2/SW:Tor, not quite daoc. Since there is nothing else at the moment, I would say give it a go..

cant edit so i quote myself: being a dingbat i tried to be sneaky and copy the game client from normal folder to EU folder - Launcher proceeds to delete everything in both and begin re-downloading entire client aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah shit :)

Some threads on reddit deal with that. No idea if they work or not, since I am still at work. Take it with a grain of salt.

ZOS so far has a track record of listening to the community. That bodes well. They delayed the whole game to implement a fist person view, which was scrapped early in the design process. Also there was a lot of talk about the tutorial and starter areas. People felt guided too much. ZOS listened and made the tutorial completely optional after you do it with your first toon. Also you start in a major city now with the option of going "back" to the starter isles. Pretty much what everyone wanted. I give them a whole lot of credit for that track record.

Apart from that, the game feels "elder scrollish" enough without completely foregoing the MMO part. Feels like a good mix. Am still a bit unhappy that there are character classes at all, but at least the "mix and match" options are plentiful enough to create a characater you really like to play. Will sub for 3 months and see where it goes from there.

Oh and Cyrodiil PvP zone is a great mixup between oldschool DAoC, Planetside 2 and Guild Wars 2. I had a lot of fun as a bolstered lowlevel already. Trebuchets on bridges pwn. ;)

i was able to skip the EU patch by patching the US patch logging in to the game, logging out and re-opening the client then accepting the EU change and then it skipped the huge patch, i might of been lucky but try it.

Another ESO Beta clusterfuck. The launcher is unable to create the folders it needs to install the Euro version, despite being launched as Administrator.

Tbh anyone that hasn't spent money on this already I'd now advise to stay the hell away. This is basic shit that should not be an issue 2 weeks before live launch.

Swift response from Support. I told them about the *local* file system issue and the permissions related error from the client.

They told me to check the firewall.

I'm off to play Neverwinter.
