Lots of people are saying its a very bland game without much life. What do you guys think about this?

Can't say I disagree so far as low levels ago purely from looks. The graphics are stunning, just everyone is fucking brown. :/

I don't pay any attention to the story/quests etc so couldn't comment on that element.

Well, that was a grind to level 10. I guess I should finally check out AvA now.

Happened to us multiple times. Literally 90% of the times we inc'ed even/greater numbers they all stealthed on inc. No, they weren't all Nightblades.

It's a fucking broken and stupid mechanic. Simple as that.

We gave this a try tonight, definitely a bad mechanic. I can understand including sneak for everyone like the previous games, but everyone being able to be fully invisible without any skill progression..should be changed imo. We sat on roads, completely open and people would not detect us until near melee range. It worked well when avoiding zergs, but the majority of the time we found ourselves steamrolling solo/small groups trying to catch up with the zerg.

I hadn't seen this being done in previous betas either, but tonight we were certainly not the only group doing this, most of the 8-24man groups that we saw that were not just storming keeps were all sneaking around.

Edit; for reference some screen prints how close people are while I'm still hidden. Also when casting Crystal Fragments on sorc, I don't seem to leave the hidden state until the spell fires. :p

Yep. I farmed books for Magelight and that certainly helped, but it's going to be an issue on release if it's not changed imo.

Only thing other than that which I can find to complain about is the stupid way in which bolster works - being a flat buff rather than a % increase and rendering all regen, spell pen etc stats completely broken. Made getting a proper feel for PvP without being 50 extremely difficult. We were able to fight with a group of between 4-8 people last night against up to four times our number and kite/survive for a very long time, but we were always OOM within seconds when we tried to drop people. Managed to win a couple of fights by kiting people into a choke point and dropping ults to kill them and at best we maybe killed ~15 people with a group of 6, but the bolster means I can't surmise from that if 1) it'll be the norm to do that at 50 or 2) you just won't have the resources to output enough damage. That or we're playing the game wrong, I'm not sure.

I'm starting to agree with this. It doesn't help that the quest system is broken. Constantly having to quit the game and log back in just to move quests along.

It really is just MMO by numbers. I don't feel immersed in it at all. Was hoping that may change when it goes fully live and I start playing with LoE Guild, have some doubts though.

Roll on Camelot :)

Well, that was ... zergy. Not really feeling anything different from GW2 WvW, other than supplies/fast travel mechanics.

I need to remember that after Planetside 2 I said I'd steer clear of "massive open world PvP" games as they tend to just descend into Biggest/Most Mobile Zerg Wins.

Is there any advantage to preordering the imperial in real terms?
I think theres 5 vs 3 day headstart? Is it really worth getting such a cheap horse?

After another few hours of play, I'm beginning to think I wasted the money on this game. Leveling up another char was painful 5-6 broken quests. One where I had to relog 6 times to move forward. This game is no where near ready on PvE side, the quest system is very poor and constantly breaks.

Still finding the fighting mechanics clunky and as a whole not really engaging, not that challenging either. PvP was a zerg fest much like GW2.

you can upgrade from normal to CE with a cash shop purchase, 15 quid or whatever, apparently

and its odd that the quests are broken for some people, seems to be one extreme or t'other, some people are reporting no probs at all, some cant even do basic things , very odd

Pre-ordering regular edition: Play any race (sans Imperial) in any faction & 3-day headstart.
Pre-ordering Imperial edtition: Play any race (including Imperial) in any faction & 5-day headstart.

You also get some other perks from the Imperial edition, like the mount, but that's not connected to pre-ordering.

It is a very odd setup. Over the weekend 3 of my mates and I were playing. I was slightly ahead and had 1 broken quest all weekend. The next guy was maybe 30 mins behind me and had broken quests all over the place. The third guy was the same as me and had only the same quest as me broken and he was 5 or so mins behind the other guy but over took him as quests were working.

I was playing a char from the original beta weekend. The middle guy playing one from this weekend, the last guy playing one from the same original beta weekend.

Some updated thoughts on the game. I've been playing ranger templar for a most of the time, shooting things, lightning bolts etc etc. Class abilities quite fun but weapon abilities kinda dull. Towards the end of the afternoon on Sunday i made myself a sword to go with a magika shield i'd found and had a go at stabbing things.
Melee is alot more engaging than bows, 1h+shield that is didn't try dual wield. I think i'll try 1h+s for pve leveling and resto staff for range/pvp, being an out and out healer seems best for me. I didn't get to see if having things in the hot swap gives you the stat bonus's, i assume not however.

Rolled around in PvP for a while with a resto staff, healing is certainly an art with targeted abilities, healing someone in particular with a directed heal is a bit of an art, getting the angle just right to stop it lancing off to the nearest hurt person, but once you get the knack of it its fairly simple, the resto staff AoE is pretty effective in a seige, i ended up using that for healing people at range and my own pbaoe heal for most other tasks.

All in all i'm still pretty pleased with the game and am looking forward to release.

rumour i heard was that mobs for quests and npcs werent spawning as there were too many people around, so zone "Mobs" had capped out or something

if thats true , a- its a bit poo, b- after release week it wont be a factor

Apparently Zenimax will give a refund if you cancel a pre-order that was bought directly from them. I've sent them an email requesting such. The last 2 beta weekends have been the absolute worst I've experienced in any game this close to launch and that includes WAR. There's some nice content in this game but after the weekend the alarm bells are ringing too loudly to ignore.

I was playing on EU server at 9 am Dubai time, the issues were not npc spawn related, I was literally the only person in that zone at the time (quest where you heal injured people with argonian poultice). I ended going to do some RL stuff then coming back in the afternoon when there were numbers on and it worked. So not down to overcrowding. It seems to me that the server misses your quest point and does not move along. Sometimes you log out and back in and it re-initiates that request and works. Mostly you log out, back in and nothing happens.

That's good to know, I did order direct from them. Don't really care about the money but might very well do the same myself. Will make decision on whether to try it out for the free month soon. LoE are playing so may just try it out again with them, might be a better experience with friendlies.

The combat is the biggest let down and better in GW2, Tera and Neverwinter in imo. The PVE Questing is crap even compared to ftp games, riddled with issues. I had high hopes for this huge open world experience. Hardly seamless though and the loading times for some of the zones are crazy long when it gets busy. Altogether it is not what I was personally looking for.

I was going to pre-order yesterday after cancelling my WoW sub but got side tracked. Sounds like I dodged a bullet :)

beta thoughts from me - not a complete review as i didnt bother with any PvP

pros:
  • very entertaining game
  • story is great - meant i rarely felt like i was grinding or just wandering about (though i did do quite a lot of that)
  • world is stunning - very pretty and lots of variety
  • "feels" like war/desperation - this is something thats missing from most MMOs, the feel that there is an actual war going on
cons:
  • bugs bugs bugs - i hit progress blocking bugs in almost every major quest line for all three factions i tried out
  • other people - frankly I would quite happily play these stories as a single player without lllloooollgolas or his budy Gggaaandallfffffff hanging about (first MMO i would consider playing on a RP server just to avoid all of that shite)
  • French/German/ruskies - strongly considering playing on US servers (if i play at all) as zone chat was full of our European friends, from experience they all tend to end up on one server (if that applies here) and anyone who does not speak the lingo is excluded (happened to me twice on two different servers in WoW o_O)

Its not a bad game, its a really interesting MMO with a huge variety of possibilities but it is not ready for release, on top of that I think the price of the game + the subs will mean it will make a big initial splash then fade to more realistic numbers, especially during summer when i imagine people play less MMOs anyway (due to outside world!)

One of the issues I have with the game is the "Megaserver"-concept. It's basically exatcly the same as the system in Neverwinter with a fancy name.

I would much prefer to have regular servers where you can split the population based on language, RP etc. Regular servers also promotes a better community IMO, as you get to know people, guild tags and such. With the instanced system ESO uses, guild tags and reputation means nothing, since you're probably not going to see the same people twice if they're not on your friendslist or in your guild (with the notable exception of Cyrodiil campaigns).

The minimum they need to take care of is to have a strong, reliable way of seperating the EU server into language specific instances. Cba playing on EU if the system has no way of putting french, english/scandinavian, german and russians into their seperate instances.

Not a huge advantage tbh, the horse is slow.. And you could probably afford one fairly early on.

The imperial race looks ok for melee, but still not the best. The best pre order bonus IMO is any race for any faction

This was my 3rd beta weekend and it definitely felt like an elder scrolls game this time. Bugged quests everywhere!
Relogging took care of some of the bugs where the NPC didn't spawn. Most of the bugs I encountered was when I played my lv 10 wood elf templar in the AD area, doing lv 12-14 quests.
I made an imperial in EP, got it to lv 7 and didn't encounter any bugs that I can remember. It still doesn't seem ready for launch, but when was an MMO ever ready for that?

Overall, I'm not super excited about the game anymore, but will still play it. I haven't played any PvP yet and hope that will make it worth it.

At the start yes the low mana is an issue but when you start to get crafted armour and + mana to it's cap and capped mana regen it's a lot better. A little hint, do not place any points into mana, you can cap mana just through armour bonuses, do health all the way.

Played and enjoyed EU servers all weekend just to see if the lag was any better then the US side and it was, experienced some lag when hanging around the zerg vs zerg at keeps but apart from that i was impressed but even though i didnt see any Russian chat spam, i'm sure come launch there will be. That is what im worried about those damn Russians/French who just spam crap but i think i will roll on EU now just cause of the low latency.

The quests bugging out was a bit poor so close to release but again they were using a lower patch so lets hope all is well at release, i didn't like the new prison break where you can only choose a sword either but a lot of ppl have complained so that will probably get changed back to the weapon racks.

Probably rolling Daggerfall just cause they had lower numbers in pvp

DO you have another source for that Fefner? I was unaware this was the case, and stacking away from magicka is a tempting idea, just want to be sure i'm not gonna screw myself over ;)

See you in the DC!

on a side note viz stats - if you want to tank/survive, stack the "end", so you can dodge ;)

Indeed, i think through the main game it'll be points as normal, then fork out for a respec once able to craft the gear required to amx out magicka, stacking health and stamina otherwise.

It helps to add a little magika under level 20, but for end game 49 health is the only way to spend points :/

Bit of a poor system, I'm sure they will change the soft caps soon
