I've been looking around independent games a lot more recently, as the big-budget stuff is, in my opinion, quite boring. I think the last decent expensive game I played was Bioshock.

Ages ago, I bought Darwinia, which was ace, but a bit short. Then I bought Defcon, which was similarly ace but suffered from ragequits and the like. I also bought World of Goo, which sits on my laptop waiting for me to complete it, when I travel away.

I bought Machinarium recently, which was just fucking amazing, and today I bought Osmos, which is quite good fun, a bit like the first level of Spore. If anything, its extremely relaxing, and not at all as simple as it looks. Its also lovely to look at.

YouTube- Osmos

So I propose we have a thread here, purely for discussion of and recommendation of cheap, independent games. The kind of things that you pay a fiver for, get 10 hours of fun from, and come away feeling happy.

Please post pics and links if possible.

Well, Ben There, Dan That and its very much superior sequel Time, Gentlemen, Please.

Zombie Cow Studios

Torchlight is also pretty entertaining, though can get a bit samey. Make sure you play it on hard as normal is too easy and gets dull.

Too late to re-edit, Torchlight isn't exactly very cheap at the moment on Steam but it's worth getting when it's on offer.

Miami Shark

A game where you play a sidescrolling shark, who can jump out and latch onto stealth bomb planes and drag them down into the ocean for a higher score.

Saira is an OK little platform / puzzle game for roughly a £5 ($12 usd).

I think there is a demo version to download. I'm not a massive platform fan, but at that price it was worth a punt, and I thought it was OK.

Me thinks poor old Gaff is getting senile. I'm assuming you're referring to the post you made in the game bargains thread, dear. Bless 'im, he's all turned around. Nurse!

Audiosurf - Good as a gimmick but after a little while got boring too quickly...

Blueberry Garden - Very, very short, not great.

Braid - Fantastic platformer which should last for quite some time... not the easiest of games :)

Crayon Physics - Good as a gimmick but after a little while got boring too quickly...

Darwinia - Great game, worth the purchase, just bare with it and you'll see.

Everyday Shooter - Boring as hell for anything other then the odd 5 minutes of play.

Gish - Good game. Seems more like a flash project then something which you'd pay a lot for though... small lasting appeal.

Mr. Robot - Horrible.

Osmos - Very soothing, relaxing game which should take around 5-6 hours to complete. Worth every moment though.

The Path - Surreal game which you may not 'enjoy' as such but it's worth a go on just for the 'wtf' value.

The Secret of Monkey Island - Just get it...

Peggle - Good fun, great during lectures etc.

World Of Goo - Best of the crop. Fantastic game which betters most high budget releases in my opinion. If you haven't got it, you're a noob!

That's the list of low budget games on my steam list, 10 of which were bought as part of a pack and I'm sure I'm missing others which I couldn't remember. Loving the .../sigh. 'INDIE' movement, if only it wasn't for the stupid shorthand writing of it. Nice idea for a thread :)

Not since they replaced Wogan with Chris Evans. I think Radio 2 might now be getting too young and trendy for you!
