Erm...

Now, I am not going to suggest you are stupid enough (maybe you are? Previous form and all that) to think I was talking about players who pulled out through injury or genuine lack of fitness...

But...please clarify, or not, whatever.

Who were you talking about then? Drinkwater's the only one I know of who didn't have a "teachers note", so to speak.

The reality of it is that Southgate would probably have picked players he might not have played in the qualification campaign anyway to assess his options.

I noticed Raven called you stupid for you saying people pulled out for injuries. Classy.

I'll be interested to see his response with a list of names of non-injured players he wants cast out from the national team because on the face of it his post was nothing more than a thinly veiled dig at clubs saying their players were "injured" leading into a round of pointless international friendlies. Then, shock horror, when challenged and presented with information, he tries to change the intent of whatever he said earlier.

Henderson?
Stirling?
Delph?

All basically borderline worthy of playing on current form, usually get picked because of names, but pull out, yet will piss and moan if not selected for competitive games.

Several others that ordinarily might have liked to have trained with the England squad (you do understand that an international squad is more that 11+ a few subs) right?

I have no idea which clubs have pulled fit players from the squad, as far as I know, the likes of Kane (Who I guess you are insinuating I am talking about, because, you know, you're thick) have essentially been injured for the last few weeks and nobody expected them to be available.

but carry on with the passive aggressive bullshit, if it makes you feel good :) You need it, champ.

...Anyway. As I said, about time some fringe players got a look in, I didn't think they put a bad shift in.

I know a lot of people, like the idiot a couple of posts up would like us to just pick a list of names and keep hitting the same brick wall but I personally think its about time the youngsters got a showing, they did OK.

pfft you can hardly claim Delph is picked because he's a big name, i'd class him as a fringe player whose performances this season warrant him at least getting some game time.

So you coincidentally named the 3 remaining players from the list of 6 who were officially withdrawn from national duty that I hadn't mentioned in my first reply. Outstanding effort.

The results of a single search...
Sterling and Manchester City team-mate Delph, who also withdrew from Southgate’s last squad through injury, played in their side’s 3-1 win over Arsenal on Sunday.

Sterling came off after 78 minutes with a back problem while Delph, who has been playing at left-back, lasted the whole game but appeared to pick up an injury in the closing stages. He has a calf injury.

Liverpool captain Henderson missed his team’s 4-1 win over West Ham United on Saturday and was always regarded as a doubt with a thigh injury. After being assessed by Liverpool he has stayed with his club. Kane had already pulled out with a knee injury, Alli with a hamstring problem and Winks with a sprained ankle.
You can't even spell all of their names right ffs.

It's weird that you call me an idiot and that I would "like us to just pick a list of names" when I clearly want the team to be selected based on form. Oh look, here's an excerpt from a post to illustrate that very point:
If the selection is based on form why in the living fuck was Oxlade-Chamberlain anywhere near the first 11?
The fact of the matter is that very few English players play abroad and the best players in the league system play in the Premier League. Loftus-Cheek and Abraham are both on Chelsea's books - they're not fringe players, they're both young and just haven't been called up yet. It wasn't long ago that the likes of Oxlade-Chamberlain, Gibbs, Wilshire etc were automatically picked because they played for a "big team" but they're all fit and... not picked. At least Southgate is trying something different.

carry on with the passive aggressive bullshit, if it makes you feel good :) You need it, champ.
If you don't see the comedy in that sentence then there's no helping you. You very obviously don't know what "passive aggressive" means.

I just find it funny that great players can play without any problems 20 full matches in a row, but when a friendly international match is coming up, they all get minor injuries which will last just one match so they're ready again when players return to their clubs

Yup. Alright lads, Germany and Brazil at Wembley, no pressure to win, the sort of matches you dream of.

No thanks gaffer, I chipped a nail in the week.

Get out of town.

Yes, strange I would mention players that were withdrawn, when discussing players that withdrew. Most odd...

Counter-point - fucking pointless waste of time in the middle of a long season.

Anyone that pulled out of the squad should be left out of the WC squad, fuck'um, about time other players were given a chance.
Yeah fuck all those injured players!

So you presumably didn't read the next paragraph in my post which detailed all of their injuries.

All 6 of those players were injured or "injured". It could've been their decision or a decision made by their teams to withdraw (probably the latter). Why do you think the Tottenham players were genuinely injured but the other 3 were just making it up? It's a massive coincidence (I'm not arguing that) but they're all officially marked as injured so you're going against what you said last night. You know, when you called me stupid and thick because I was implying that you were talking about injured players... when it turns out you actually were talking about injured players all along.

If it had been a proper group match (even if England had already won the group and it was "meaningless") then there'd be room for outrage but it's such a pointless match in a largely pointless international break (apart from the play offs of course) heading into the busiest period of the season (especially for teams in Europe and cup competitions). Other countries have a winter break (I know Klopp moaned about it when he came to England) so they'll have a chance to rest their players up but it only gets busier for English teams.

You missed your meds again @Raven?

Before last weekend's league game...

Liverpool FC said:
A thigh injury suffered in training on Friday ruled Jordan Henderson out of the Premier League clash with West Ham United.

The Liverpool captain was set to take his place in Jürgen Klopp’s starting XI for the game at London Stadium – but, on advice from the club’s medical team ahead of kick-off, Henderson was left out of the squad...

...I talked to the medical department and – how it always is – Hendo wanted to play, but the medical department said the risk is too big.

So he’s not even on the bench, that’s not cool for us but we cannot change it

So, on the advice of Liverpool medical staff he's not playing for his club due to injury, and you're whining that less than a week later he's not playing for England?

Or are you some mad conspiracy theorist like Job and you think Liverpool would make the captain miss a game just in case he got injured during England duty?

Was really torn with the Sweden Italy match(es).. Italy needed to lose just because they felt so entitled to a spot. But on the other hand WE needed to lose simply because we don't belong there... On the other hand, no Zlatan to fuck things up because he decides to be a crybaby so maybe there's something to hope for now...

Best two nil-nils in a while. Not felt this confident in England in a long time.

I cant see us winning anything any time soon but the players finally look like they give a shit, which is nice.

Still think they need to convert the chances they get a lot more.
