I think i find the lack of dead wood leaving the club as frustrating as the lack of new players in. Players with no future just being sent on loan is frustrating and highlights that we pay average players too much :(

How much did NESV spend since they took over anyway? It's got to be over £100m surely? Carroll, Suarez, Downing, Henderson... That's just shy of a £100m right there iirc

£50 million back for Torres though plus what was left in the kitty from other sales.

"Seems very much like tonight was the night Brendan Rodgers picked up the tab for £100m spending under Kenny Dalglish."

If Villa can outbid you then you are deep in the shit, we don't have two coppers to rub together. Mind you could have been just a PR ploy to keep the fans on side -- just look at our other signings this week, bunch of league 1/2 players. Preparing for life in the Championship.

Nobody wants to sign for villa though, regardless of who you can afford.

That's the best record I can find (not claiming it's 100% accurate). Thing is, it bundles both windows together and iirc Fenway took over in October.

Dempsey is not to be sniffed at (he's a fantastic addition to our midfield) but I'm hoping there's still an outside chance of some magic happening re: Moutinho.

SSN literally just said Porto say it's more likely to not go through now.

The big worry for alot of clubs right now should be the new TV deal, alot of the foreign owners were holding out for that and once the cash starts rolling in the value of the clubs goes up, they will feather their own nests with the revenue and then sell high. Villa and Liverpool definately face that risk, Blackburn did too until relegation. Ballface will look to offload Newcastle the moment he can recoup his investment and make a tidy profit.

Quote from Phil McNulty

He always was a cunt.

Net spend was fuck all. More players went out under Dalgleish than came in.

Ditto under Rodgers.

No movement on the stadium. No big signings with their own cash over the two years they've been in charge.

Don't mean to be a cunt when I say this but if you go back to when they took over this is EXACTLY what I said they would do. They are yankee asset strippers, just like Gillettle-Hicks, Lerner and those cunting Glazers. They don't get two shits about football, they are only in the business of building sporting empires to fund their property investments. At least Chelsea and City have owners that like the game, just a shame that City's owners are actually Liverpool fans. :D

It was a worry. But what do you do when the general media are blind to it?

Edit:
just a shame that City's owners are actually Liverpool fans. :D

The media are the problem, they need to keep feeding fuel on the fire that drives the growth, their jobs all depend on the football boom continuing and they don't give two shits about the big picture. It is all about profit and getting it now while the going is good, just like Italian football when the bubble bursts the media will act suprised and then bite the hand that fed it for so long.

The thing is - the "hand" won't care. It'll be filthy rich anyway.

Yep, the curent owners and the media are in cahoots. The final owners when the bubble bursts will be left bankrupt and the fans will have been duely fleeced.

Also, rumours were that Romeu was going to head off to Malaga on loan, hopefully that one's not gone through because we could use him in light of tonight's horror show.

Wouldn't be able to play against us I'd imagine :p

If he gets them to the semi-final and they beat you without him then he would have still helped them fuck you over, it is so short-sighted. Madrid are proper contenders this year, they have given Barcelona some real tough matches lately and Essien could well be a missing link for them.

Undoubtedly but it's a big ask for Essien's knees as he hasn't played consistently since his most recent comeback, I'm more amazed that Malouda has somehow remained with us.

This could light a fire under him, don't be suprised. The climate isn't going to hurt the performance of his knees either.

Wishful thinking. They have a weak squad as it is, add a couple of injuries and they are buggered.

They finished second on points and added Van Persie.

They'll be fine.

Every team around them has strengthened, UTD have just aged and Rooney will probably be out for a couple of months too. Their squad is basically the same as the one that limped to the end of last season but a couple of players light.
