So the press gives the idea of - but won't actually say the word "racism" in connection with the story (they reference the Suarez thing instead).

The "word on the street" is that it wasn't a racist comment but something that's been misheard (still don't know what it is), and that several witnesses, including a BBC journalist, have given evidence to the police that this is indeed the case...



Edit: Either way, crying? Fucking baby. Regardless of what was said - crying about something you think a stranger has shouted at you makes you a girl. Unless his mum popped her clogs that day and someone had a pop about that at him. I have read "fucking black bastard" from a few sites. And crying, not really the moment you realise that everything that makes you a person is totally ignored because the colour of your skin i bet that gets to you. Even worse when its during a game of football where you are meant to be judged on your footballing ability. Anything racially motivated is out of order no matter how server it is.

Why are you getting hung up on the fact that he cried? His manager said "He is a placid boy, a kid who has been well educated with a fantastic temperament and has been with us since the end of August and I've never seen him raise his voice." It's not beyond the realms of possibility that he is just a nice guy and someone flinging abuse at him would upset him.

I have. Many times. It's not nice. And when you're surrounded by people of a different colour to you it's really threatening. Even more so when they're explicitly threatening you.

Ever heard "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me". To a point that's right - words won't physically hurt you, but they do hurt. Not enough to make you cry from a one-off chant from a football supporter when you're surrounded by team-mates in a not-physically-threatening situation though...
