Not at all, but in a team that seemingly hasn't taken to him, does he really need to alienate himself further

I think Miereles and Mata will give Torres the service he needs, the problem is that won't happen overnight and your play style needs to change a lot more still.

And if you do go that route, what about Sturridge, who is the best option at the club and should be playing every week?

Can't see any reason why Sturridge, Torres and Mata couldn't function as a front three.

It just feels to me that Torres really doesn't know what to do when he's playing in a front 3.

You're not wrong, but I think that is due to the player he has been playing with:

Drogba - never stays wide, and why would he? Natural centre forward and it will never work playing Torres and Drogba together.

Anelka - more adept at staying out wide, but still has a tendency to cut in and narrow the team's shape a lot.

Malouda - lost some of his pace so tends to drift inside and doesn't stretch teams like he used to.

Kalou - shit.

I mean, mostly the front threes we have played with Torres have been very narrow, Mata stretches teams and plays everywhere as well as simply being a far better creative player than any of the above. Sturridge has also shown he can play that kind of role also, so I think it would work.

Who knows at the end of the day, but it would be really sad to see Torres never recover his form. With that said, I would far rather see Sturridge and Lukaku play over him now anyway.
