Anderson looks better then ever (remember Im the one always supporting him whilst clueless people slagged him :D ) and is actually looking strong in pushing forward even if his shooting is still off.

pffft, I've been defending him since we signed him.

The only thing making me yawn, btw, Turamber, is your sad bitterness.

I never troll, just made me laugh when they were showing the match live. All sitting there like they were watching it over their Sunday dinner ... like most United fans, naturally.

And yes we were shit today, but didn't lose. Try following a proper football team Mr Glory Hunter you may get to know the highs and lows of football, not get bored at 3-0 and start channel hopping.

If by some sort of miracle, Villa became the dominant team in the country, naturally attracting young fans over the years of success. Would you then consider yourself a glory hunter?

Calling people plastics or glory hunters is kinda retarded. If it wasn't for fans supporting teams not local to themselves, very few teams would have the money to be in the premiership. A glory hunter is someone who switches teams based on performance, yes there are one or two on the forum, none of them are UTD fans.

I could call you a glory hunter Turamber, what with your fancy premiership team, nice big wage budget, your own clutch of international players. Try supporting a team that is currently 4th from bottom of the football league. Every season is a low but now and again your get a high, like when we beat Liverpool last season.

Carrick brings experience and maturity to the midfield where Cleverley does not. You are saying that Cleverley is the new Paul Scholes when he has played only 3 or 4 games for United this season. I honestly believe that Chelsea will bring this United side crashing back down to earth next week - we really need to calm down a bit and realise that they are in good form at the moment but it will not always be so.

We don't know how Cleverley performs in the big games. What happens if United face Barcelona in the Champion's League? The lad might capitulate, as talented as he is, putting in someone like Carrick guarentees an assured performance.

In some ways, Cleverley's injury is a blessing in disguise. Hopefully Carrick will now get some more game time. He has the passing range and vision of a Spaniard - will be fantastic to see him supplying Hernandez and Rooney this season.

The injuries for United are a big worry. I expect their form to slip. City have the determination and the squad to win the Premier League this season - and I believe they will.

Carrick was fucking dire against Barcelona pretty much every time we ever played them. He gets totally out classed and looks like he is drowning on the pitch.

Although it was only a friendly, Cleverley done superb against Barcelona in the pre-season friendly. I would have more faith in this youngster then carrick. With carrick you know he will stand in awe of the Barcelona team and walk about the pitch like a lemming, that is the only guarentee that the guy gives.

Carrick has had plenty of gametime over the past 2 years, and other then the odd good game all he manages to do is destroy our playstyle

Mark my words, Carrick will become one of the best midfielders in the world. He is a late bloomer, like Xavi, but at his age now he is better than Xavi was at the same age. He has already shown his talent, he just needs to hone it now.

You been saying that for a couple of years, in which time the lad simply has been looking more and more out of depth.

Yesterday, against a Bolton team, he looked very plain. His movement of the ball is very very limited and he has no real speed to make up for that with accelleration. He is just all round slow player. His brain is slow, his movement is slow. He had potential but it has been wasted with the fact he just thinks he should walk into the team. He looks happy to merely collect a paycheck.

When he does something good he will get credit off me. If he does it consistantly then I will be happy. I just do not expect it to happen though, the lad lacks passion and without that talent goes to waste.

There is 18 months difference in their age. Xavi 18 months ago was one of the best midfielders in the world. Carrick is far from that now and never has been.

Carrick has seen his best, it's all down hill now.

Xavi, 18 months ago, was an average midfielder. Even still, he is merely the ultimate water-carrier (except he lacks the ability, strength and all-round play of other water-carriers like Deschamps). Carrick has one of the best shots in the United team, and although he isn't fast he's a very, very intelligent player that can play both attacking and defensive midfield. Watch the games, and you will see what he does for his team.

I assume you didn't watch Euro 2008 then ?

I watch all the games, and he doesnt do enough for the team. He completely messes up our playstyle. Pretty much can guarantee that a counter attack will end when the ball arrives at Carrick as he stands there and goes "Oh fuck, i need to decide what to do now as I forgot to pre-plan"

And his shot yesterday that led to Hernandez 2nd goal was amazing. I think he perfectly targeted the corner flag :p

as for 18months and Xavi.... lol!

Yes you but you are spectacularly missing the point - this is not the conversation we are having. I using the fact that Xavi, in the grand scheme of things, is a lot less talented than people say he is to illustrate the fact that Carrick (because he has more ability) has the potential to find a style of play, like Xavi has done, that allows him to integrate completely within his team. Then, he will get the credit that he deserves.

You really are fucking clueless. Xavi not one of the best midfielders in the world 18 months ago? What fucking game are you watching? Because it simply can't be football or you absolutely know nothing at all about the game if you truly believe that.

RE: Chelsea yesterday - so happy with the performance and especially Sturridge's fantastic goal. Mata looked incredible and Meireles brought some needed class to the midfield. Hopefully the fact AVB has now shown he won't pander to Torres because of his status will encourage him to up his game. Have to say Anelka looked sharp and, despite the years he has on him, looked at least a yard faster than Torres.

;> love the fact you had to steal meireles from us to get some "much needed class" in midfield ;)

Xavi is the ultimate team player and would be great to have. What I am saying is that, in terms of individual ability, he does not have great talent - he was never great before 2007 and only became world-class in the eyes of the masses due to him becoming highly acquainted with the style of Barcelona. This is not a discussion about Xavi, I was merely using this example to show that you do not need to be a fantastic player to be successful for your team. Carrick has the potential to emulate Xavi because they are similar players, with Carrick being a superb all-rounder whilst Xavi is limited.

But, that is enough from me today - in time you will see. Thank you to those of you who presented your own opinion without sending me insults and death threats, it is quite obvious to those reading this thread who those people are :).

I'd not looked at it in that positive light; I'm of a mind to start a poll about carrick...

Putting in Carrick guarantees a lot of things but an assured performance is not one of them!

Would love to see some stats from the past few years of Carrick's contributions compared to Xavi's in terms of:

Ball retention / pass completetion percentage
Chances created
Assists
Goals
Interceptions
Tackles

I'd be willing to put good money on Xavi besting Carrick in every single department. Wouldn't even have to be volume, but relative percentage or something otherwise fair to compare them, because it's obvious Xavi plays many more games as his manager actually trusts him - unlike Ferguson. Then again, it's obvious some random troll on a forum knows better than Ferguson on how good a player is so the fact Carrick is often on the bench shouldn't be taken as proof that he isn't very good.

In terms of chances created I believe Xavi was in the top 5 in Europe over the last 5 seasons. Cesc was first.

So puts to bed the claim he was average two seasons ago. He's been consistently brilliant his whole career.

Carrick will have good pass completed % because 99% of his passes are backwards passes of a distance of 1ft.

He may well be heading the assists per game ratio... if you include him giving the ball to the opponents :D
