So United have signed Jones then. Initial reports seem to say it was for the 16.5 mill that his buyout clause specified.

Not suprised, Jones's agent was convinced the release clause was iron clad.

Would have been interesting to see it in court. United bid 16.5 mil and Jones agrees to go. Liverpool then bid 18.5 so Blacburn want him to go there or for Man U to match the price. I wonder what the courts would have made of that.

It looks like Jones has put his foot down and demanded a transfer to Man U though.

If I were in his position I'd demand a move to any club but Liverpool, too. I'd even stump up the 2.5mil difference if I could!

The courts IMO would have sided with Jones, Blackburn cannot force a player to go somewhere he doesn't want to, and they are the one's that stuipulated a price. It's their own short sightedness that has cost them. And LOL at Steve Kean " we can't give him champions league football YET"

No Kean, you'll never be giving anyone champions league football. What muppets.

Awww... Utd spent £16.5 million on what most people agree is a world class CB in the making, someone coveted by the top clubs in the country. A player who turned down Liverpool.

Liverpool spunked £20million on a midfielder no better than the young one's they already had. A player none of the other top clubs went in for.

If that's what you think, maybe you should take a look at the posting stats.... I know we win a lot, but not that much :)

Anyway, you are avoiding the point. Henderson, £20million, silly transfer? Especially considering Aquillani will leave for peanuts.

Henderson was relentlessly linked with United all through January........

Yes and never followed through on, he was not linked with anyone come the end of the season bar Liverpool. Jones on the other hand was actively bid for by 3 clubs.

Do you see the difference? You are also avoiding the issue. Does anyone here actually think it was money will spent by Liverpool?

Of course it's a silly transfer, but he is English, the price you pay for English players is rising every day.

It wouldn't surprise me if an English player moved for over 50m this summer..

Meireles was their best player last season after he adapted to the league. Great signing, and they would be silly to allow him to go.

Yeah :s we have too many midfielders now though :( one has to go, and selling Lucas or Meireles would be stupid.

Agree. Gerrard is a cancer in your team. Get rid of him like you did Torres and rebuild. He's on the injury table more often than the pitch anyway.

I think it was good move. If it is 20 million in cash, its inflated. If its 13 million plus Ngog its fair. Time will tell how much the deal is and what addons there are. He is young, English and could be a very good player one day. Liverpool are not in the CL and are not champions. Therefore we need to move hard and heavy on any target. I will freely admit that Jones is another very good young player whom I would have loved for us to sign.

N'gog would be good for Sunderland, they need a striker. However 6-8million? I don't think they'll pay that.

I liked the look of Aqualini, he just came back from injury.. sadly he got very homesick :|

Maybe, we looked better without him this season, I agree.. but I doubt we would get more than 30m? probably less, since he's old..

Plus it would start all the "sack dagleish!!!!!!!" crap :s

Sorry mate but at his age and the way he was last season I think you'd be very lucky to get 20 mill let alone 30.

Indeed. You paid 7 million for Bebe though so it can happen. When you are in a position of dominance such as United, you are always going to have a better pick of the transfers than the teams below you. At the moment Liverpool are a long way below United. However I would much rather gamble on young English talent to close the gap rather than paying the 10 - 20 million for middle aged foreign players as we have in the past.

Yeah, not worth selling for under 30 though :/

At his age unless he can change his style to play like Alonso and sit deep pinging the ball about £15 mil would be good for him. His best days of storming forward are behind him now. I would keep Mirales and sell Gerrard as the two do not work together.

In henderson they are not just buying a kid with potential. They are getting a kid with talent who is 100% focused on improving and being as good as he can be. He does not drink, smoke or piss around. after training he watches football, and tries to understand the game.

so hes nothing like the majority if scrots we have playing for england.

Look at the 21s last night, rose and bertram couldnt cross the fucking ball, and they are being touted as ones for the future. lennon, wright phillips all exactly the same, far too much to soon, and they believe their agents valuation and a couple of nice stories from the press, so they stop trying to improve.
