I like the way everyone has forgotten how good Chamakh was in the first half of the season when RvP wasn't around... he burnt out around December because he had to play every game for the full 90 as Bendy was also injured... that's why his second half of the season was rubbish. At the end of the season, in the final couple of games, after his rest period he looked a lot sharper again.

True, a striker for 4 months is fantastic. Forgot about this revelation.

Lots of Jordan Henderson romurs on RAWK now. I know nothing about the guy, is he any good? Will he become good? :p

How good was Chamakh? Distinctly average I seem to recall.

Yes, we will sign a striker and we need one, especially with Nik on the way out. But Bent is so very far away from what we need, or will do. Or can afford to do. We need to sign a few players, so spunking £30m+ on Bent would hamper all of our further strengthening.

You will also most likely have a heap leaving no? I mean you died on your arse after the CC final.

Average, jack of all trades and master of none. Over-rated English midfielder tbh.

He was very good on joining. At the start of the season him and vdV were being touted as the signings of the season. Fans have short memories.

Exactly why £30m+ is a joke, we won't spend more than about £20m+ on a player this window.

And the 4 months thing - it's easy to make a smart arse comment about a team with an injury problem that leads one striker to get completely worn down. Remember it was Chamakh's first season in the EPL and rarely do strikers settle into goalscoring form like he did so quickly. The burnout was unfortunate but understandable.

I remember people praising VDV but not Chamakh. All I remember is shit touch after shit touch leading to wasted opportunities.

Chamakh has 7 goals in 29, Arsenal need to get rid of him, Bendtner and Persie, and get in two world class strikers asap or they will be stuck in the same rut.

You what? Have you actually watched any football this season, or do you just go by stats?

Chamack carried Arsenal for the first 3 months of the season, in his first season in England. He's burnt out that's all, they shouldn't be selling him. That's Liverpool logic.

Enjoy your trophyless season then. An injury to RVP (which is a certainty) and your fucked. For a free signing Chamakh wasn't bad but he has never been anything more then distinctly average, even in the french league he wasn't considered great. Nothing smart arse, after 4 months he was on his arse, you've just admited it.. what the hell use is that? He's bench fodder and Arsenal should do better, but that means spending so won't happen.

He was never signed to lead our team like he had too. As a bench player he is fine. No one is doubting that we need another top draw striker because of RVP and his glass joints. But as a squad striker i would rather keep him than big Nick. As the start of his Arsenal reign showed he can hold the line.

Nasri had much the same season but no one is calling him useless.

Ineffective at times and seemingly up his own arse is what i'd call Nasri. Can be replaced but on his day is game changing.

Agreed, far too soon to tell if he will regain his early form. The lad more than deserves a chance.

I'm just saying, if they want to win trophies then they need a world class striker sooner than later, and Chamakh really does not look it, first season or not.

Well if they only need a world class striker, they already have one. RvP would walk into any of europe's elite. Or do you think he's shit too?

hmmmm hard to say

talent wise one of the best

game per season wise, shit

most of europes elite wouldn't have him for that reason

shame cos when he hits fitness and gets some form he's unplayable

great player, shit signing would be my view for anyone looking to buy him

Nasri to United would be such a blow to Arsenal. I think he is their best player. I could understand him going to Real or Barca but to Arsenals main rivals?? If I was paying the ticket prices they are I'd be fucking pissed.

i'd say like 4th-5th

i rate cesc arshavin and RVP higher

and i think they have quite a decent midfield so someone like vermalin is more important to keep atm

Id rate him higher than Arshavin personally. Right now I'd probably rate them

1. Cesc
2. RVP
3. Wilshire
4.Nasri

If he went there and played like the first half of the season yes but if he went there and played like his other three and a half years he would not get in the team. Nasri was as absent from the run in as any other player. To steal a quote cometh the hour go missingeth the man. He is not responsible for our failings but when we needed a player to stand up and be counted after the Birmingham game Nasri was mia with everyone bar RVP and Jack.

He's good, but they need someone far less injury prone really.

Didn't Darren Bent play up top with Jones at Sunderland? oO and it worked quite nicely.

Would probably be better off letting Downing go anyway, since he's absolutely shit! It's a shame Villa are left in this position after things were looking so positive with O'Neill a couple of seasons back.

How do you rate Albrighton by the way?

It looks now as if the club overreached itself financially in the O'Neil period and they are being quick to blame him, as are some of our more gullible fans. Yet unless he signed the cheques he's not the one accountable for the financial problems.

Downing is far from "absolutely shit", he is a very classy player. Was our in-form player last season and along with Bent did the most to keep us in the Premier League. Has a nice turn of pace, good delivery and a cracking shot. Can't often beat a man and is light in the tackle but for a club just outside the Champions League places he is excellent. Not so sure he'd be a fixture in a top four team though.

Albrighton is a little green but has a tenacity and hunger to his game it is hard not to love him. Also capable of some brilliant crossing and 'heads down race to the line' old fashioned wingplay that gets the crowd on its feet.

I think I may just have an irrational hatred for Downing. Thing is, when I've seen him play (admittedly not all that often) he never seems to do anything but misplace passes and get tackled while trying and failing to beat his man. I think overall I just think he's a bit 'lightweight'. 'Absolutely shit' is probably overstepping the mark.

Looks like Guus is nailed on to be the new Chelsea manager. Have to say I can't see anyone else I'd want to have other than him and I doubt he'll be as pliant to Abramovic's (alleged) meddling as Ancelotti was. Would also be keen to see him move on to Director of Football in a couple of years and bring in a young, exciting head coach like Villas Boas to build for the long-term. All this musical chairs with managers is going to irrepairably harm the club if it doesn't stop so hopefully the appointment of Guus can finally stop that.
