Theres more chance of Wayne Rooney winning Ballon D'or than there is of Moyes going to Villa. It would be a step down for him or at the very least, a step sideways.

A step-down? How do you make that up? Don't talk dribble.

Edit: And if its because we're "a selling club". How about Wayne Rooney? Pot here is Kettle.

Villa is a step down though isn't it. I mean selling Wayne Rooney for a shed load of money at a very young age and allowing them to strengthen their whole squad and stabalise the club. Can't really be compared to having to sell Barry and then Milner one after another and probably Ashley Young and then Gabby will probably go as well. Yet there is no reinvestment.

Everton also have a very good youth set up!!!

With the exception of Rooney and Lescott, Everton have managed to keep the rest of their stars, despite interest from top english clubs, because they dont need to sell. You even said yourself that Villa are now a selling club, because the chairman wants his money back but because someone else has mentioned it, you are getting all defensive about it.

Aston Villa "is" a step down for Moyes and there isnt a cat in hells chance he will go there, which is why managerial heavyweights like Alex Mcleish, Dennis Wise and Steve Bruce are being linked to the job.

I read that Arsenal are going to buy Schwarzer and Fulham replace him with Given. It seems mad that we would not go for Given but then City might not sell him to us.

City will not sell or loan players to their rivals. Bellamy made it clear that City refused to allow him to go to any of their perceived rivals, it would only make sense for their policy to apply to their other players.

Like I said earlier, what have they won recently? They are a mid table team and now that they have no money to spend, no manager and little prospect of getting a decent manager they will remain there, I think they will be happy with 10th this season tbh.

Its a bit of a shame but when you have an owner who owns it to make money out of it that's the only way it can turn out. They have been picked to the bones and had little re-investment, no youth system of any quality so its all looking a bit bleak, unless they can get a cup run going.

Its a little bit like Newcastle fans insisting they are a big club in the face of relegation. They punched above their weight for a couple of seasons but now don't have any players of quality left. If a club has to rely on players like Heskey for goals then you know you are in desperate trouble.

There is nothing wrong with that, you have always had several mini leagues happening inside the prem, only the very blinkered would consider Villa to be anywhere near the top 5 in quality, its just the way it is.

I'd hardly say Villa have been picked to the bones. Barry and Milner engineered their own moves to a great extent. Also, hasn't Lerner invested around £150million into the squad since buying the club? He's asked for wages to be under control and the club to spend what it makes. This is common sense. Fans need to wake up and realise that not everyone can just have money thrown at them. It's not the solution, look at Brown and the state of the country if you want a parallel.

edit:// actually, probably should read into the club, not into the squad.

edit2:// Not this crap again: BBC Sport - Football - Old Firm will join the Premier League - Dermot Desmond It will never happen, it's far too complicated and will affect the league structure too much. Shame though, as he makes a good point in the second part of the article, but the first part clearly shows that he's off his rocker.

I'm a fan of the premiership, I have no leaning towards any club in particular (aside from a dislike of Man shitty) and I still think villa are down to the bones, who have they really got left that can turn a game? The truth is they have spent money and not no return so its no surprise that the owner now wants to see some money coming back.

As for the Rangers/Celtic thing. What would be the point? They would most probably be relegation fodder pretty soon after joining the premiership so it would hardly help them, unless they invest heavily. I do like the idea of a wage cap, though it would have to be Europe wide so that teams that spend way beyond their means can't just carry on regardless and expect to be propped up by the state. Can you imagine mercenary teams like Man City, Barca etc managing with that though?

i doubt rangers/celtic would be relegation fodder, they're decent teams tbh. Mid table teams more than likely. But I can't see why they'd want to join, they'd lose out on a champions league spot in the scottish league.

Celtic/Rangers could become a force tbh. Huge gates they get and more revenue, plus the lucrative draw of the Prem could see them do well tbh.

What are this weeks lottery numbers please? What they may do is one thing, what they have done is quite another.

The only players we've sold in recent seasons are Barry and Milner for inflated transfer fees to Man City. Only last season Everton bought Lescott off Everton too.

The clubs are very similar in age and history, it is a sideways step. Villa Park is a much superior ground to Goodison though, they can't host international matches there due to the sub-standard facilities.

We "also have a very good youth set up!!!", Albrighton and Agbonlahor are both youth team products and we have more waiting in the wings.

I appreciate this is probably a wind-up but facts are facts.

When does a club stop being a big club and another club become a big club? Are Chelsea a big club? They have won things and finish in the top four regularly recently ... but they're not a big club.

Are Man City a big club? They have ambition and shitloads of money ... but they're not even the biggest club in Manchester.

Big Club is terms of history, then yes, Villa, Us, Forest, Huddersfield, Utd, Arsenal, etc etc

But in the current climate, all but 4-5 clubs are just small fry.

So then being a big club is like being fat? Some people are fat but its nothing to brag about.

What defines a big club is power. That power can either come from being able to spend shed loads of money or from having a reputation of always being able to challenge for titles/trophies over long time scales.

Villa can't claim either. Villa would be a step down for Moyes because he would have to start again. If you are going to take a club somewhere with limited investment you have to do it through long term investments like the youth team.

Some real bollocks being spoken in this thread, Villa are a big club with a fanatastic heritage. They might be a mid-table side at the moment but they in many aspects they are light years ahead of some of those teams around them. As for Everton, they are on a par with Villa and are also a big club being heavily limited by a decaying stadium and a board who won't invest.

You cannot compare either to Wolves, it night and day. Oh and I have a soft spot for Wolves, it seems your softspot for them is between your ears though Everz. :p

Can only blame himself after jumping ship at Arsenal.

Can't blame him, Barcelona was the chance of a lifetime. Arsenal are a fantastic club with a brilliant stadium but on the world stage they are not in that upper echelon with Barcelona, we Brits always struggle to understand the alure of Barcelona and Real Madrid but for johnny foreigner it is the pinnacle of football. Foolish imo but that is the way they look at it.

I actually think Rangers and Celtic will do ok in the PL with PL money behind them. But they should fold them into the Championship first. Increase the Championship by two places which i don't think the Premiership can handle.

Scottish football would die without Rangers and Celtic there. The money alone from their fans travelling to the away grounds, would put the majority of the other teams in that division under serious financial pressure.

As much as I would like to see it happen and have them playing down here it isn't realistic. I am certain it would devastate Scottish football to the point where it effectively it becomes semi-professional like the Irish league.

Why? Who will sign for them? Its like saying whichever team comes up from the championship will do well cos of the PL money, which isnt the case. They will also lose champions league money too as there is no way they will qualify.

Mid table at best. Relegation fodder most likely.

The largely unspoken story seems to be that Pardew was not getting on with the new backroom staff that the club had overhauled. Rumours of a large number quitting last week because they claim that Pardew was impossible to work with. But still, it's a bizarre sacking. You don't give your manager a vote of confidence at the end of the season, let him spend money all summer, then sack him after 3 games!

What sets them apart from other mid table fodder is the ability to sell out a 60k seater stadium. They would easily be able to attract the same players as Everton, Villa ect if they were in the Premiership. So they could easily compete for europa places. And the Premiership money dwarfs what they will lose from going out f europe in the first round.

Would be totally unfair on other clubs if Rangers and Celtic joined the English leagues by going straight to the Premier League. They'd have to start near the bottom and work their way up.

Anyone noticed how people who support clubs that haven't done anything of note for a few decades go on about their "history", when actually they're only specifically referring to their trophy haul?
