They have been buying up land around the stadium for years and as a result of being granted permission for the new stadium a lot of the old problem areas have either been cleared up already or will be to make way for the new Anfield Plaza.

Grounds for debate: Anfield – Redevelop or Relocate? – This Is Anfield (Liverpool FC)

That article is one of many which looks at both pro's and cons for a move /redevelopment.

The problem for me is only what happens if we need to increase capacity again in the coming years, beyond 50-60 thousand seats.

The problems haven't really been "cleared up" because they'd have to redirect Anfield Road (ironically by lopping off some of Stanley Park).

I really don't get the preference for staying at Anfield; if it was redeveloped, the atmosphere would, by definition, be different anyway. Sure you'd still have "The Kop", but it wouldn't be the same as before, just as it wasn't the same after the seats came in.

I could understand the objections more if the intention was to move the ground into some suburb out in Warrington or something, but you're talking about a move of a few hundred yards.

If Liverpool wants to be a contender again, it needs at least 60K seats, and I'm sure they're the one English club who could match United for regular 70K attendance levels, they can't do that if they stay at the Anfield site.

Relocation sounds pretty great when you look at the alternative - earning about 25m a year less than Arsenal and United.

What do you want? To revel in history or have a future? Oh wait, Liverpool fans, we all know the answer :p

Will be firmly cheering Real tonight. Sick to the teeth of Barca. Too good, no fun!

Newcastle deserved their point against us last night. Wasnt a good game at all to be honest. Hate the lack of Rafael/Fabio in right back because we seem so negative down there, and O'shea almost never provides a good ball so gets ignored on overlap. lol.

Hopefully we pick it back up come the weekend, it still ours to throw away but we must still have at least 4 point gap when we play Arsenal, that way, as long as we match their other results we can draw 1, lose 1 in game against them and Chelsea.

And yus, would like Madrid to win their cup match to shut up the arrogant Barca players.

On the o'shea thing - NAni deserves massive criticism there, he failed to put in a good ball himself, and it was very predictable as he was always crossing from deep when O'shea overlapped. Using o'shea now and again would have tested the Geordie defence.

Very happy with a point last night, we've been a bit ropey since Carroll was sold (unsurprisingly) and other injuries haven't help so getting a point was nice.

Arsenal need to beat Tottenham tonight for the result to matter for you guys though. None of the other top 4-5 teams have shown anywhere near enough consistency this season, for an off-colour (I've not seen many top Man Utd performances this year) to still be relatively comfortable top of the league

Madrid got no spirit it seems. Ronaldo and Ozil just cant be fucked to do a thing up top when they lose the ball. No intent to win the ball back.
