It was indeed pleasing to see Barcelona lose. Whether it is their valiant and rather naive insistence on playing their own style of football, or their inability to adapt to another one, it is certainly a weakness in this Barcelona team. The performance was something of a desultory affair that has so often characterised the Catalans when coming up against quality opposition; lacking cutting edge, petulance, a metrononome-like display pertaining to boredom and the usual theatrics that you associate with the Spaniards in general.

Real Madrid on the other hand were athletic, and played with their hearts. Cristiano Ronaldo is surely better to watch than the tedious Messi. His theatre and unpredictability is so often frustrating but what a fantastic header to win it for Real. Football won tonight, the brave Madrid winning for king and country as opposed to the falsely patriotic Catalans, the sectarian nationalists who boo their own national anthem.

With regards to English football, I still see United winning the title. And what a performance by Carrick against Chelsea, his vision and ability to intercept was most definitely world-class pedigree.

I must express my utmost disagreement at your opinion. I am not trolling, what I said in the above post was what I believe to be true.

Carrick's performance was poor against City, because he gave the ball away that lead to the winning goal, there is no excuse in that. However, even the best players in the world have their off days. Carrick's leadership and class against Chelsea showed why he should be one of the first few names on the England team sheet.

How can you criticise a player of Carrick's stature? How can you constantly ignore the plaudits from top players, top managers and journalists alike? How can you ignore the number of games he has played for the biggest club in the world? How can you ignore that number of titles he has won? Is it not a coincidence that United ended their many years without a league trophy the season that Carrick arrived? How can you ignore the fact that Carrick played more than 50 games in the season that United won the Champions League and Premier League?
