This.

A good manager will know which games to get his players up for. You cannot go into every single game chomping at the bit, ready to play at the top level of your ability. Some games you have to drop the intensity a little or you will be burnt out mentally by the end of the season. if this means dropping your mentality for "lesser" teams (no offence intended to the copenhagen fans) then sometimes you may struggle if this lesser team has mentally raised their game for it and his nothing to lose. I remember SAF alluding to this himself after beating juventus in the champions league, the roy keane game and then losing the next game at home to someone like Sunderland.

Of course, when you are one of the best teams in the league, even dropping your intensity a little will be enough to get past most teams but there are times when you will come unstuck.

This is the reason why sometimes you will blow away the likes of Real Madrid by 5 goals and other times, you will struggle against the likes of Levante. Its a long season and you can train physical fitness easily, its the mental fitness that you need to keep in check

Spot on.

Yep, exactly, and it's not only down to the manager. Players will be fatigued mentally, or just over confident.

So what you are saying is that Pep only needs to get his players mentally ready for Real games in the domestic league and some teams in the Champions League?

Marc is spot on, I see it all the time with top clubs. The result is important, not the performance against perceived smaller clubs.. Against your mail rivals, both are important.

Yes, and they are right to strike. It's not only about the high earners, the heart of this dispute is Italian clubs wanting control over a players future. Forcing them to accept transfers. Imagine your employer saying that you were no longer wanted (without reason to be able to fire you), and saying you had to go work for this other company instead, by the way you are no longer welcome in the building.

So glad I did not try and get a ticket to Upton Park today, transport looks horrible, ground looks freezing.

We've actually got a more experienced side out than West Ham, we better win!

It was shocking defending for both goals, lucky the first didn't count!

Shocking defending for all three goals :D I shouldn't make too much of it, though, as we're bound to be spanked by the Blues tomorrow.

Evans is looking weaker by the day, I can see him being kicked at this rate. As for the rest, well it really lacked any kind of leadership but it was always going to be tough for Giggs after being out for a long spell so putting the blame on his shoulders is downright unfair.

They need another Henry. Without splashing some cash I can't see it happening really. The inexperienced card is also starting to wear out.

Anyone has or knows where to get the Barcalona - Real Madrid (29/10/2010) game with Spanish or English speach. Someone requested it!

Blackpool £45k lol. Good lads.

Aye, if they stay up spending on agents on a larger scale is bound to happen though. :( They are a cancer on the modern game, that money goes out of the sport and does not come back in.
