A General Forum mod would end up being loved like a derby match referee, cant win whatever.

Any kind of popularity would soon be binned.
They'd have to answer to teh mighty @ bwgame
They'd have to be consistant
They'd have to backup any action they took with cached pages, log files, emails.
All this backup would have to be kept for a while.
They'd have to be able to dig out these logs and pages from somewhere they can get to it without too much fuss.

Probable skills list?

I would suggest they would be:

  • Older than 21
  • Younger than 40
  • A BW "customer" for at least a year
  • Stable in character
  • Not stupid
  • Contactable online 1 hour per day
  • Able to look at the forum(s) at least twice everyday
  • Be politically neutral
  • Racially aware but neutral
  • Sexually neutral (j/k:))
  • Firm
  • Approachable
  • Decisive
  • Fair
  • Consistant
  • Answerable
  • Strong of backbone (upright sort who can take flak and not cry)
  • Not a drama queen
  • Not in it for any kind of percieved glory.
  • Willing to argue their case for their actions but without being single minded, tunnel visioned, stubborn or stupid.
  • Willing to stand up in a court of law and give evidence if something went really really really too far

I reckon it's fair (not totally sold on it tho) Some pubs and insurers "discriminate" at 21 and I think if you are 40+ you are too distant from the 16 year old CS'r with l337 attitude.

Generally the best people for mods are the sensible people who dont take the piss, dont go over the line, and dont wanna be a mod.

Thats how I appointed game admins & opers @ droidarena when i adminned it :x

Judging on some of the "less than official" moderators I would suggest adding

o Crook
o Spastic
o Mild retard
o Thick
o Extremist
o Bipolar
o Unstable
o Schizoid

to the list. This will garuantee the current trend of moderation is upheld.

This doesnt reflect on anyone who works for the bw crew, merely a couple of "helper" folks who I have come across recently =>

This would simply require a hidden forum so instead of threads being removed they're dumped out of sight. That also gives the BW/Game lot the ability to monitor what's being done. Can ya tell i've done this before? :rolleyes:

Looks that way, however I guess the permissions aren't set properly because I can also read the thread (usually vB should say you've not got appropriate privilages, cannot display, yada yada).

Id take an opposing viewpoint - where the line that is drawn is vague and not set in stone. There should only be general rules layed down - cliques being frowned upon, newbie bashing not being tollerated etc etc - pushing the forum members in the general direction. If complex rules are laid down its only a matter of time before somone comes along and bends them as hard as they can. When they are challenged, they will claim there was no specific rule they infringed, theyre just being picked on, woe is them, your all racistist, ad infinitum.

General rules should be laid down, with the forum mods and bw/game admins having the only say on what is or is not tollerated. These rules should then be laid down consistently. Everyone knows what newbie bashing/racisim/muppetry/random flaming consists of. No one needs to be told. They dont need a 50 page T&C to tell them so. As such, no one should be surprised if theyre punished for doing it.
