If it helps new posters feel less scared of asking questions then I'm all for it - that is the real purpose of these forums not as a hunting ground for ego-wars and l33t spammage.

I also think it was a good idea to remove the warning in the general section as some people seemed to have a problem realising the bounds of good taste.

The warning thing was mainly put in because I was getting support complaints about the fact swear words were used on the forums, especially in the general forums. It seems some parents thought it was okay for their 12/13 year old children to play violent FPS games with age recommendations of 15+, but not to visit a forum where people use n0rty words. Perhaps over time it did become an excuse for certain individuals to post whatever they wanted but it wouldn't surprise me if / when the forum gets more visited that these types of complaints crop up again even over what I would call "moderate" language.

hmm, dunno about that... whilst i don't personally have an account, i have a couple of mates who do, and they've all had positive things to say about it, which I think the 'pay for membership' has smth to do with :>

d) as for swearing complaints, turn on the filters? add something to the T&C's so the parents don't complain, but frankly "parents whinge at us" falls under the category of "do what you have to do"

Good move TBH.

Couple of suggestions to pick up on what people have kind of said already.

Some of these may exist already but I just wanna but them all in one place as a sort of Charter.

1. Narrowband forums. Give an option in profiles to either view the images within the forums or have the UBB code turn it into a link you can click if you're narrowband.

2. Swear Filters. Says it all really. Give us the option to turn them on or off. Perhaps even a custom filters section in our profiles that kid's parents can edit if they were to set up their kid's accounts.

3. Although cutom titles would be nice (I can't say I'd be terribly upset to lose mine ) I don't think it'd work. Leave it as a request thingy but just don't let people know that's the case.

4. Make up some funny general forums description. YEAH!

5. Ratings. Don't see the point tbh. If it's rated as crap my curiosity will make me click the link just as much as if it was rated 5 stars. Just more to load isn't it?
