was supposed to be playing in a little showmatch tomorrow night but my internet is fucking terrible every evening between like 5pm and 8pm so I won't able to play because I'd just be dropping every single game. FML

Can you change provider or are you stuck on a long contract? It's probably your ISP throttling your connection back at peak times.

Yeah its an 18 month contract which sucks. I live with my parents right now so I would feel bad forcing them to switch their internet just for me anyway. Will hopefully be outa here by september but its a massive ball ache at the moment. I get home from work after 8 hours of thinking about playing SC2 and then can't play for another 3 :(

When I get home from working 8 hours the last thing on my mind is to play SC. Way too fatigued :D

Yeah I remember when I used to be completely unable to play at all if I was tired. Half of the game is just muscle memory for me at this point though :p I can perfectly execute most zerg build orders without thinking about it. Sometimes I go into a game planning to do something then realize I've been daydreaming for the first few minutes and I'm playing out a completely different game because my hands decided on a different build. So even if I'm tired there's a basic level of play I'll still play at. Also I'm used to massing ladder games so it's not such a big deal for me to just whack out 10 or 20 games. I can't relate to ladder anxiety at all ^^

The best one is when you get back from the pub and decide it's a great idea to ladder a bit before bed. At least the next time you log in your MMR has gone down so much you get some easy games :p

Yeah I've got a couple of smurf accounts so I don't have to fuck up my ladder rank :p

Going quite well in Gold! Only lost one game in which I screwed up despite having a massive advantage :)
17-10 (including my bronze and silver games). Just defended my first 4gate and went on to win. Weeee ;)

Keep going to buy HOTS whenever I see it, but then the ladder anxiety hits me even before getting the chuffing game. There's something wrong with me I'm sure!

Just dive in with ladder games an accept you will probably end up in bronze after your placement games. The first thing I did was start laddering after about 18 months of not playing. I didn't even know you had to build your first pylon at 9 supply :p It all slowly comes back though. No one is watching your ladder rank or matches - it doesn't matter if you lose them.

Well I was probably nearing Gold level before HOTS. Got a really good few build orders down, my basics were getting OK, just lacked the understanding of how to counter or change play based on what I scouted, which will only be harder now there is new shit in the game. Urgh.

I'm having so many problems in plat atm. I think my mindset after losing matches really has a negative impact on my games, I get frustrated and end up playing worse. I'm probably something like 3 - 8 or so now in plat :S I think my MMR should be pretty bad but still I get paired with TOP (!) Diamond players

To look on the bright side I am getting alot of good practice and there are lots of areas where I improve alot. Especially when it comes to defending early aggression, with bunkerplacement and swapping building addons for more effectivce defence.

SC2 has scarred you for life :p

I am watching and silently judging you all :sneaky:

But seriously yeah, ladder isn't actually that important. Even if you lose all your games, in 3 months time the ladder will be reset and no one will know what you did last time.

Getting frustrated when you lose is normal for SC2 I think. You try your hardest and concentrate super hard for 20 minutes but still fail and get confronted with -12. Just got to not fall into the trap of making excuses. Lots of people get mad and then can't handle that they've lost so they make up all kinds of excuses to blame the loss on balance, or the map or their opponent being 'cheesy' or something. The way to improving is accepting that you failed.

I used to get pretty destructive if things were going really bad. I've done things like break keyboards or join and leave ladder games once they start. That stuff is stupid too. I've learned to recognise when I'm getting angry and to get up and walk away from the computer until I calm down. I make cups of tea just as like a ritual to get me away from the keyboard and calm myself down. Then I go back and watch the replay or think about what went wrong while drinking tea. I try to find 1 thing I can improve on for next time every game I lose. This way every loss is something productive.

Yeah you can hit all burrowed/cloaked units with splash damage even without detection. You can also hit the swarm hosts with your colossus if you can be in range of them as the locusts spawn. Since the locusts are right on top of the swarmhosts, the colossus splash damage will kill the swarmhosts when they shoot at the locusts.

Also just a minute ago in proleague flash shot one of his own marines with a tank to kill a burrowed mine that innovation had hidden in his mineral line ^^

That's pretty clever :p I've seen pros kill creep tumors with their Hellions by shooting through their own units or destructible rocks as well.

Meant the bit about Flash shooting his own marine with a siege tank to blow up a nearby mine. Thats genius in the heat of battle tbh!

PvP is annoying too. You have to pick an opening (fast robo, stargate, TC or fast expand) and hope they don't do a build that counters it quite hard. Also, void rays bone absolutely every protoss unit. If you can mass void rays you will almost certainly win. They are a bit like mutalisks in ZvZ it seems, except fortunately they take ages to build.

Seems like all the mirror matchups are a bit bullshit at the moment. ZvZ is super volatile ling baneling micro in early game into 1 dimenionsal muta massing. New spore buff which only affects ZvZ today though. Not sure how it will play out. It might encourage more people to try playing not muta, but I think muta will still be the strongest opening since it gives you complete map control vs any non-muta player which gives you the room to start massing swarmhosts which rape everything zerg has on the ground.

Storms/Blink can hurt Void Rays quite a bit.

Storm can that's true. I don't think Blink is that helpful if they have a decent number of void rays in the mid game though. The stalkers die to quickly with the prismatic alignment.

Aren't you playing protoss? lol :p

Yes!

I just mean that IMO (this will ofc differ!) it is easier to become decent with Terran (above silver). This due to MMM being easy to build/manage/fights everything in low level play 'ok' and units such as widow mines that are very "fire and forget" and still require quite a lot of attention from the opposing player to prevent losses. Im sure at around Gold this will start to smooth out though as more players are starting to get the hang of all units.

With that said the thing I always lose to atm is Swarm Host play :)

Im sure other peoples opinion will differ!

Yeah, they can melt amazingly fast. I remember when I saw my first Mass VR coming against me and assumed that Stalker would be a decent counter since it is the only anti air standard unit we have. I lost horribly :(
Maybe blink should be used to escape after Prismatic is activated rather than trying to blink to them?

At gold level mass VR still ain't that big of a problem, have not seen it that much but when I have seen it everything seems to melt when the VR count reach a certain point.
