Haha, I started a ladder game. It's TvP on Neo Planet X and my opponent does the gl hf at game start. I do my usual reaper + FE build and discover he has built NOTHING in his base. Thinking this is some sort of proxy cheese play that is going to hit me at any second I panic build bunkers and turrets and put down tons of barracks. Meanwhile my reapers roams the map scouting every possible location (I also scouted proxy locs at start and found nothing). My reapers have killed all his probe in base and still he does nothing. So after a while I kill his Nexus and win the game!

Soon after the guy PM's me and slams me for not making the game draw or pausing, because apparently he went afk!? He didnt say anything nor did he pause, and just went afk at start of game and somehow I am in the wrong for not reading his mind. LOL

Can a player unpause? Lost a game yesterday that made me sad.
I started the game, then my GF whined a bit about having to close some doors et as she was gonna sleep.
I quickly paused an turned of all the lights and closed doors.

When I got back I was supply blocked and severly behind, all he said he did not talk english

You can unpause using the pause/break button.

Yeah either player can pause or unpause. It has to be that way to stop someone from abusing the pause rather than leaving the game. In my experience most people are reasonable and wait if you pause and say brb or something. But there are always some douches who will just unpause as soon as you leave because ladder points are a big deal or something.

It put me in gold after my first placement match even though I won. I'm back up to diamond now though after playing some games.

The ranking is really weird. Got home from work, 4 straight losses then I manage to win a game. After that my 2 next opponents insta drop as the game begins. Now I am ranked 1 in my division? I fail to see the logic

Scouting is really important. I'm not too good on reading the information I get myself, but the things I look for when I scout as terran is:

- Are they fast expanding? If so it's less chance they will do some silly all-in that you need counter and allows you to play more greedy and macro up. If they don't build an expansion after reasonable time it can be a 1-base all in that you need to be prepared for.

- Do they get gas early and how early? (the exact timing is really only relevant on higher levels as the stuff that happens in the lower leagues are usually way off) If they go early for fully saturated 2x gas it might suggest they are teching up to something.

- What kind of unit composition are they using or will be using? Gives you a better idea what to make and what to not make. Also helps to guess their intentions. If I see a zerg putting down a Roach warren very quick it can mean that he will roach rush me and I prepare by building bunkers, marauders and maybe get a tank. Same with protoss gateways, if I see 4 gateways getting put up I play very cautious and are prepared for early aggression.

Of course it depends also on when you scout. Scout too early and you see very little of importance. People in lower league plays a bit unpredictable also, so scouting information may not always give a clear picture. Later on people are very accurate on the timing of certain buildings and gas, even down to number of probes/buildings that suggests any proxy or whatever, but thats really not relevant at lower leagues.

I simply can't beat any half decent protoss at macro game. HT with storms AND colossus just melt away any terran army and the ghost micro required is beyond anything I can manage, it's a bit of a mission impossible since all toss armies move around with observer also. Just got brutally owned by some korean dude in gold (!) that melted my army down 100 supply in 10 seconds. Sigh.

Just got brutally owned by some korean dude in gold (!) that melted my army down 100 supply in 10 seconds. Sigh.

I know I've said this before but your main advantage really is in drop play. It's what kills me anyway. Constant drops at the main / third while poking at the natural. If the protoss sends too much shit to defend you can just straight up kill him. There is a time while the protoss will only have one or two Colossi (or few HTs) that you can really do a lot of damage. If you don't exploit this period the you're going to need much better micro than he has to beat him.

Also I find it's far better to drop with two medivacs full of mostly marines. You can kill a Nexus really quickly with stim. One medivac can be annoying but it's not that much of a threat.

I know, but most protosses I meet just turtle and stay in base until their deathball is unbeatable :S

Did anyone watch the WCS games today? There was a game between Stephano and Grubby that went on for about an hour. They each had half the map but Stephano had mass swarm hosts and just slowly won. Grubby was repeatedly able to max out but watching it I just couldn't see a way he could possibly win.

Yeah I saw it, it was very similar to another match I saw where the protoss just got overwhelmed by swarm hosts and slowly got pushed back after a long struggle. Think it was State vs Scarlett or something in WCS NA. Speaking of WCS NA, can't wait for Polt vs idrA and that group (Polt, idrA, Revival, goswser) tonight (starts in 20 min)!

I was actually very impressed with idrA, he played fantastic that game. Polt just refused to die! The second game on the other hand ... lol. Polt too good!

I beat a master league player earlier. It was a zerg. I noticed he was a masters player so just 8 gated him. It actually worked! It went on for ages. He only made roaches, I think if he made some zerglings he would have held it off.
