Corrected. User error my arse.

Nope. No Transcoding done here whatsoever. The old P4 I have as my home server doesn't like transcoding too much, so I remux instead. No issues so far, works a charm.

As I said, user error. You're doing it wrong.

Anyway just seen the list of free games. Not bad at all, shame I have them all apart from Ratchet and Clank :/

Is it worth getting Wipeout Fury if I only have Wipeout HD?

It will be a massive target and it really wouldn't surprise me if they got busted open again.

As for the games on offer. They are about £5 each in game. Not really worth bothering with...

I paid 40 quid each for inFamous and LBP, and Wipeout Fury was 22 iirc. Still wouldnt want some facts to get in the way of a little Sony bashing now would we?

Cock.

I enjoyed Infamous, it was a long way from perfect but it is was alright most of the time and decent in places. Very nice freebies, I can't fault Sony at all.

Raven can though. However this is perfectly understandable, as one day, a long time ago now, someone wearing a Walkman bummed his pet goldfish. Since that day the Sony logo has been embellished on his brain as a sign of all that is evil. They could send his freetard ass 27 virgins and a slut from Dundee and he would still moan they didn't send 29.

No one gives Sony a harder time than me to be fair, I just think they are trying to do the right thing here after making a massive mistake and they should be applauded for trying to right wrongs, not slapped for it.

Exactly, think how much two games to EVERY user will cost them. Millions.

It will cost them next to fuck all. The games on the list don't sell any more, except on the 2nd hand market. Anyone who really wants to play them, already has. I imagine they have come up with a flat rate to pay the non Sony publishers which will just be a bonus for them on a game that has ended its retail run.

If they wanted to actually compensate their customers rather than just placate them, then they could have given something far better.

Well, you don't know how the business works at all do you?

It'll cost them in that they need to pay publishers and devs.

It'll cost enormous amounts of bandwidth to host all those millions of gigs of downloads.

Do you think server costs are minimal? Or do you just think in black and white shelf value for everything?

if they are forward thinking they will buy some temporary bandwidth to make sure that already irate customers wont be more annoyed when their pipe gets hammered by an insane amount of traffic when store goes live, maybe thats what the delay is ? who knows :)

They lost 70 odd million users personal details and all they can think of is 2 free games + a month sub for PSN, and a month free sub + fluff stuff in their MMO's?

To me it just seems a tad disrespectful considering what actually happened here.

Maybe i'm just being "angry and negative" again, but seeing them try to downplay this as a "small hiccup that happens to all major MMO companies" is just infuriating me...

They are being very clever, 2 of the bigger games in the freebie list are Little Big Planet and Infamous, both of which got a sequel in near future. Chances are people that havent played them are more likely to pick them now meaning more chance these people will go and buy the sequels ( if they liked them ofc).

Aye, and the list of choises weren't that great to begin with.

What they should have done were offering 2 games from their entire games library...

Which they wouldn't be able to do with the big publishers that aren't Sony exclusive.

Then they can pay for them, it is what they are trying to make it look like with these games after all...

The bottom line is Sony are in business to make money. They have had a PR disaster, but having said that, if they can use a little spin and give away some old budget titles and get away with it, of course they will. Also it is a bit unlikely that they will approach the developers of the latest games - who have lost an awful lot of business through this fiasco and with ideas of getting discounts there. As was said earlier, they have specifically targetted older titles, mostly with sequals in development.

Obviously Sony's reputation has suffered, but if they wait a year or so and scrap the PS3/ten year console stuff, people will probably come flooding back when they release the next gen console/media centre, which I daresay is being rushed through development this very moment. Of course the cheaper test for that theory will be the upcoming release of the NGP, which lets face it, can't do much worse in the west than the PSP did.
