Wonder when they'll discover how to make movies that aren't sequels.

Actually, after seeing the Nvidia demo theatre at The Gadget Show Live I am starting to believe that it can work but only in a very limited capacity. For instance in many games it works very well, in most films it is utter pants, also with games you can split your time playing and avoid headaches whereas with films it becomes a very disjointed experience if you keep taking breaks every 45 mins or so.

If they concentrated on scripts rather than gimmicks I might actually think about going to the cinema again.

At the moment I'm not watching 3d tripe, with an extra surcharge to buy a pair of glasses just for the priviledge of being bored watching it.

As soon as "IN 3D" appears during a trailer, past experience just makes me go meh!

Didnt they learn the lesson last time (Jaws 3d, Elm Street 3d, genre dies)....

I'm 100% behind the no sequels remark but if something's going to make the cinema a better experience 60fps is going to be it more than 3d.

I've been saying for years that 25fps is shite and when films pan horizontally it's heavily detrimental to quality.

Sometimes sequels are better than the first film.

Aliens > Alien
Terminator 2 > Terminator
SW:Empire Strikes Back > SW:A New Hope
Superman 2 > Superman
Lethal Weapon 2 > Lethal Weapon
Mad Max 2 > Mad Max
Get the idea? :)

I've seen 60fps video compared with 30fps. I could see the difference clearly. The source material left something to be desired (it was porn with SoCal blondes after all) but the extra framerate translated into smoother movement on screen.

3d is meh. It helps enhance a few films where they were natively filmed in 3d (Avatar, Tron Legacy) but is wasted on the vast majority of movies where the 3d effect is added in post-production.

Aliens > Alien < Maybe (very different)
Terminator 2 > Terminator < incorrect
SW:Empire Strikes Back > SW:A New Hope < correct
Superman 2 > Superman < incorrect
Lethal Weapon 2 > Lethal Weapon < oooh close but incorrect
Mad Max 2 > Mad Max < can't rightly remember but I *think* incorrect

Alien and Aliens are different enough to be counted as different genres - and are both excellent at what they do.

Terminator is the better film. Period. T2 is fun tho.

Mel Gibson could actually be mad in the first Lethal Wep which is good. Joss Ackland is great in the second. Patsy Kensits tits are shite tho so that swings it. :)

opinions Zenith.....

Alien for me, for example, is the best of the series.

agree with scouse really, ALien is sci-fi horror, Aliens is an action movie. the first film is about the Alien, the second film is about the humans.......

and I'd put Terminator ahead of T2.

As gamers we know all about panning and movement in 60fps looking much nicer. I was reading however about American audiences who much prefer 24fps in the cinema, as anything above that and the 'film' effect is lost, and it feels like watching television. I believe TV over there is filmed at 30fps.

Means that the shakycam is dead and a few particular film makers have to rethink a few aspects of filming :p

James Cameron can gtf.

"THE FUTURE FOR EVERYONE IS 3D!!!"

No, the future is 3D for the corporations who need to sell us new TVs, new content and new consoles. We wanted native 24p TVs for a while, so stfu Cameron and get making some decent content, not another platform to try to make us upgrade our kit again.

3D TV is such a fucking lolwat, we'll look back and laugh - "remember when they tried to push 3D TV? lawlz".

Edit: I know current TVs support 60 fps, but I still dislike Cameron.

It could just be me,but I suffer dreadfully from flicker, I had to run crt monitors at around 90hz or the flicker would drive me mad, in the pictures still the white bits flicker like a strobe in my peripheral vision.
so 60fps would be welcome.

Yeah, both friggin superb. Think it depends on mood / company. First movie is much more atmospheric imo. Second one is all out action guns blazin. If I had to choose, it'd be Alien.

Films currently run at 72hz w/ 24fps.

There was research done a while back that demonstrated people actually got way more into films running at higher FPS ( up to 72 ).

ECA is correct. Every film frame is illuminated three times, 24FPS@72HZ (currently)

I always see the flicker, it vexes me :(

Well I liked Avatar in 3D. Seeing that army bloke's reflection in the mirror when he was in that giant robot was ace.

It's the only 3D film I've seen though.

What a surprise, 3D is shite.

It's a gimmick, just as the older 3d theatres were, to combat a new media.

The old(60s whatnot) 3d theatres were made to counter TV popularity, as it killed peoples interest to go to the movies. Now they're doing the same because of consoles.

thing is...it f*cking works. Everyone here(assuming) has given money to the 3d gimmick, but when people realise it's a poo crusted bagel, with babyvomit filling, it's too late.
