Mordred is worse/was worse

Far from it, if you couldn't take the trash talking and the griefing then don't play a PvP server tbh mate. It was part and parcel of the selling point of the server. To me Camlann especially had a tight community, had such good laughs with many of those who played, in game and off on the boards. Would you place a sound bloke such as Bahumat amongst those who would class as 'trash'?

Wow, you guys really dont get it? Daoc is great because if the three factions. The pvp servers didnt have this feature and made the game shit.. And ofxourse those that cheated and griefed, who are now crying..

The brilliance of DAoC to me (alongside 3 realms) was the combat dynamics and movement system, made it actually feel you had some input and a bit of skill was needed, rather then the button mashing of other games. PvP servers were hugely successful and often out numbered major servers till mythic decided to ignore them. ToA didn't hurt PvP as much as it did blue servers imo, created alot more fun zones and types of fights. Catacombs/NF and ignoring the obvious bugs ruined PvP.

RvR servers had the same amount if not more cheating. Need we forget the radar bans which RvR servers took the biggest hit? In OF excal there was a reason odins was called Radar Gate, couldn't move without some group getting the perfect drop out of nowhere.

What killed PvP wasn't the players, yes it was hostile, but why is it then that PvP centric games such as UO and AC are still going? It was the neglect of mythic and the ignorance that everything will be fine.

I can certainly see the attraction of a pvp ruleset server which is why I tried it time and time again. It's just a shame that 99% of the population were such utter retards. On one hand they complain that they have a low population then they go and mow down level 10s on their 50s, it doesn't matter how you dress it up, their was absolutely no point in trying to level. It's not a case of, live with it. If you couldn't even get out of a capital city without running into a bunch of mouth breathers then there is little point bothering.

If they allowed me to char copy there I may be tempted for a bit but running around un buffed in a free for all lameathon would probably put me right after an hour or so.

I agree with most of what Everz says re: Combat system, cheating etc. And I'm sure there were some good guys on the Dreds and Camlann (even if I never bumped into them).

However, Ravens experience rings true with me on the US PvP server and the EU one I tried. If you gank the lowbies then don't expect them to repeatedly come back and bang their head against a wall. And definately don't complain that there's no new blood. I strikes me that people that played that way didn't want to really PvP, they wanted easy gank kills. Some other PvP games (Eve, UO) allow for a measure of player protection that didn't involve sitting in a capital city unable to level.

Oh and I don't mind trash talking - in Eve I'd love to read it even if I never partook personally, although I received a bit occasionally when I though a 'GF' would have been more appropriate.

I spose it's about the endurance of a person (no offense intended by this). I didnt mind getting mowed down by 50s when I was a lowbie, and getting chained once I turned green because the end goal was that once I got to 50, I could wipe the floor with them.

People also who complain about the leveling issue are just wrong.. I leveled my original shaman to 50 mainly in off the map areas? Why? Because the populated ones are going to be crowded.. go to Barrows? you'll get ganked.. go to a SI zone instead and you'll be fine. I dinged the original one 50 after chaining wynerns in Raumarik as i'd ran out of money to recover my con. It was fun, it was hard (nothing on UO mind), but the sense of getting there was one of my top daoc moments.

I met some great people on Camlann, to say every was trashtalkers was far from the truth, most were grand people once you go to know them, the likes of Odin, Axty, GdE etc etc even though they appeared to be bastards, once you grouped and got to know them they were pretty awesome people, even Kuhan was pretty sound hah. Had some good laughs on there screaming the praises off the hoff with Bahu and a bunch of the other Horde crew even though I was never a member of their guild at any time.

To say that 99% of the population is retards is simply unfair, when the majority were all brilliant people who were a good laugh and a good time to play with and against.

And for the arguement, I was only in one guild (Overdriven's Truffle Heroes :p) during my time on Camlann yet still managed to become established there and have a fantastic time during. It was about being smart and using what you got.. the most fun form of DAoC I've played tbh.

Why is it the end/game over you because you say it is?:) Why are the pvp players not entitled their little slice of DAoC heaven when the rest of you have Ywain?:) To be honest I found it hillarious when those guys would try and chain me... and yes /rel city would have been wise hehe. I'd just come back later with 6 or 7 lowbie friends then spam /flex over his corpse... the flames were always worth it ;p

I'm an old school Camlann player and always wish the server did not have just 5 people on lol, but this idea won't work. You can't just delete peoples characters and items etc.

What's stopping say 500 people voting (some with no intention to try Mordred/go back), they wipe the server and 1 month down the line no one re-subs...you've just fucked over the few people who have been paying their subs for the past X months.

If you'd read my proposal you'd see this shouldn't be an issue/problem. As for the few people still playing, there's probably 5 people on at any-one time. If you can honestly tell me they wouldn't go for this proposal I still wouldn't believe you:) - what's more fun, idly fighting the same 5 people over and over with no real purpose/fun to it, or a brand-new server fresh with hundreds of folk to pvp? What use is having all that 'o-so-ubah' equip and rps with nobody to play with? ;/

As for NOBODY re-subbing this is improbable even using the harshest law of averages, even if 50 people re-sub that's still a profit on the server reset with costs NOTHING to implement:)

As for 'fucking the people' over I have only their best interests in mind as they are probably amongst the most loyal PvP'ers out there.

What I don't understand is why everybody is so quick to dismiss any attempt at reviving parts of the game currently lost, yes I can understand pessimisim but it's almost as if you WANT the the game to slowly die? ;/

Also, if any of you can refer any mods you are familiar with to this post I would sincerely like to contact Mythic andy regarding this proposal as I have a lot more written up in terms of specifics/pros & cons.

Good luck contacting someone who left Mythic 2 months ago!

A fresh start would do nothing. Even if it was successful at launch, within a month you'd have a load of level 50 characters and the same crap would start again. These days it's even faster to get to level 50, even easier to get artifacts, master levels, and anything else you need.

I seriously doubt there are enough people left who are interested in it anyway. Every time a Project Camlann or something similar comes along, a huge bunch of tourists from RvR servers come along and get bored within a couple of months.

Folks,

I've been a bit harsh here, but I've taken out the waffle and left the posts relating to sensible suggestions for Andy, I'll also sticky this. Please keep to the topic so if Andy does read it he doesn't have to wade through pages of drivel!

PS I've also sent him an email to discuss EA activity on FH... cheers
.

It would seem otherwise, which is why I sought to contact him through one of the server mods as I do not have his email. I did not realise he has now left mythic either.

As for finding people that care, I do! as im sure many others would if they were aware of this proposal! If you don't agree with the proposal your entitled to your opinion, but I remain optimistic and would sincerely like to contact the necessary mythic mods! It would cost NOTHING to TRY is all i'm saying.

I can't speak for those not playing DAoC currently, but there is a playerbase of around 300 at least who move from PvP shard to PvP shard - Faith pvp etc -and when I ventured this in broad there was nothing but positive response (apart from the few teenagers just spamming profanity). Surely it would make sense to give these players an outlet within official DAoC servers instead of slowly losing players to the shards? look at Uthgard for christ sake, it has up to 1k at primetime! So there's a playerbase for a start. Again I can't understand the hostility from lovers of RvR - if you don't like PvP thats up to you, don't play it :)

The hostility from current players who don't play on Dred could have something to do with the fact that every time a new server type is released there's a migration from the current playerbase to the new server to try something different.

This fragments guilds in their current location and groups of people that like to play together. Ywain is a single cluster and if that happened then it would most likely die.

When it all eventually falls apart (see Project Camlann, classic servers, a fair few other server jollies) then guilds get further fragmented as some people just give up (too much PvE? too much disappointment at yet another failed move??). The rest of the people in the failed project then return to find the place they left resembling some sort of bad copy of a Western ghost town. If they're lucky there will have been someone like CM staying on the server at least giving the illusion of population and activity.

DAoC servers cannot afford to bleed any more players. The Dred's and Camlann have failed. I can see where you're coming from but you're about 5 years too late and I still have a suspicion lurking inside me that if the PvP players had been slightly less gank happy and down right obnoxious to some of the incomers then you wouldn't be in this state to start with.

{edit} That sounds slightly like "You've shat on your own doorstep now lick it up" but I don't mean it quite that harshly...

Genedril, I can understand where your coming and thanks for your valid points.

In response the player migration argument is flawed on a few levels. You referenced Project Camlann as a specific example which is relevant to my current proposal - Project Camlann was doomed from day 1. The server underwent no changes/wipes of the nature I am proposing. All Project Camlann did essentially was encourage casual players in their masses to migrate to the server for a short period and be farmed by the already established PvP player base.

As for Classic I don't remember the specifics but im pretty sure that again had huge flaws and wasn't true classic DAoC.

In terms of the current situation doing nothing and remaining static is deffinitely the wrong course of option - hence proprosals and cries for DAoC origins. The reason so many players quit DAoC and re-subscribe so often is the fact they are BORED to death/sick of the current situation. I think it's also safe to say they WONT give up on DAoC until there is no reason to hang around anymore.

Again referring to fragmentation the server mergers brought about a honeymoon period of more than 2k players if I remember correctly, based on your argument they then slowly drifted away and gave up. What remains at this point is the CORE playerbase - they aren't going anywhere after all this time. Injecting new life into the game can only be positive for the playerbase - the 2k current remaining players at this point have been playing together for a long long time, opening a new server won't sever their ties or make them 'leave daoc'.

In response to Dred & Camlann failing as Everz said earlier, the PvP servers were massively neglected - the death of Mordred for example.

If you honestly believe that a new server will do more negative than positive than I believe you are mistaken. Over the past years the arrival of games such as WoW/Warhammer/Aion/Rift have all had the potential to effect DAoC in the way you propose this server renewal will, and probably have to a much larger extent. What cannot be disputed however is that Rift came out just recently and was acclaimed to be very similar to DAoC - the playerbase of 2k remains unshaken. This would have to be my main point.

And I take no offence to blunt speech as long as your making good points - which you did! :)

I didn't mean the server falls apart (though many have), what I meant was the migration of players fell apart. Some people move for something new and don't find it; some move to recapture something old and don't find it; some people move 'cause everyone else has and they want something to fight; some might stay.

What it has done in the past is fragment the player base. I tried Rift (as did many others did) and found it had nothing I wanted on offer. Not everyone else felt the same though and there are people I know now playing that (as has happened with AoC/Warhammer/Wow) and this also fragments the player base. Some people stay but then they find that their friends aren't there any more.

MMO's really rely on the relationships you build in game to keep their players (along with the game being interesting for these groups of players). These might be friend or foe relationships but you need them all the same. Fragmenting these relationships eventually hurts the player base if it's not already large enough to sustain it. Maybe DAoC is still large enough - is that a risk EA is willing to take?

BTW despite my negativity with regards to the Dred's I've nothing against something like this working as long as it doesn't hurt the existing player base. The principle is sound (wipe and restart) as long as you get the interest from both existing Dred'ers and new influx. The downside maybe that the wipe happens and then after a couple of months a lot of people think that PvP isn't for them and then leave. Leaving a slightly larger Dred player base but lot's of long time Dred'ers who've lost what they had before.

BTW say what you like about Rift being similar to DAoC - imho the PvP is pointless and therefore worthless.

I'm first to agree that DAoC as a whole needs something. It has lost its #zing#. Unfortunately nothing else offers what I want (apart from Eve which demands too much playtime for an old fart like myself who has some other stuff to do in the evenings and on weekends). I strongly suspect that a lot of players these days think it's not as great as it used to be but there isn't anything else out there. Personally I'm putting some faith in a decent Fallout MMO (not made by Beth) but that's so far down the pipeline that I may have aquired a pipe and slippers before it arrives.

May aswell face the truth. DAoC is in maintenance mode, the model wasn't as success as WoW and the like so will most likely never be used again. Its a shame, with advertising and some wiser decisions we would have an extremely active game.

Do fear we are just going to be subject to more WoW clones.. if I have to play another game where casters can't be interupted i'll go insane.

Most classes (if not all) have an interrupt in wow. The PvP is ofc dogshit but they do get an interrupt :)

I agree, I am getting less and less excited about MMOs, everyone just tries to copy WoW, which is utterly pointless as WoW is the best pve MMO around. Take Rift for example, take away the class design and its just another WoW clone. Level up, do dungeons, do raids wait for more content. To take customers away they need to offer something different, I would love to see another 3 realm game with some decent devs behind it, I can't see it happening though.

My only hope is the game from Second Star Interactive turns out to be decent. It has a few old Mythic people working on it, Darrin and Lori Hyrup etc. if that turns out shit then its pretty much it for MMOs for me.

Edit: A little bit more info on the dev team, no details on the game yet though. The Escapist : News : New MMO Studio Formed by Mythic, SOE Veterans

Speaking of Fallout (as we have appeared to drift to games we're waiting on) has anyone played Earthrise? Apparently it's going to use the same engine.

No MMO has looked decent for me for in ages. Videos from Rift just screamed 'LOL WE ARE WOW BUT DO SOME PVP', everything else looks absolute gash and just tries to follow the WoW model.

Second Star is the last hope for me also, if that flops.. well.. MMO genre has got its final nail in the coffin tbh. Remember when this genre used to be all about uniqueness? :|.

Although only me Everz and Dutx so far, this is my point - ex players will renew, even if the Ywain pop have no interest whatsoever, there are hundreds of players who currently CBA with the current cluster and RvR in general. You'd be surprised the massive amount of support this proposal would receive if any of the remaining mythic staff got on-board and word of mouth was spread... which is what im hoping for!:)

That's slightly wrong tho. If they would have released the game today i have a sneaking suspicion that it would be massively popular.

DaoC were about 10 years ahead of it's time, but the developers of today only see the failure it is now, not the glory it used to be.

Mostly because todays developers were still shitting their nappies when DAoC ruled supreme...

IMHO, less talk more action! All you have to do is support this proposal to make it happen! Not a time to digress as we usually do and talk about every aspect of the game semantics :) Just tell even one friend about this thread and ask them to voice either a yey or a ney! Get the ball rolling so to speak!

Speak to Damaja (he of the video database). I believe he's been nagging Mythic via it's Devs, CSR's, VN's, Feedback posts etc for the better part of 2 years. 2 heads might be better than one in this instance?

Fairly sure he's also Damaja on the VN's.

It was so far ahead of it's time that I remember numerous people running around Emain lagging like a mofo on a 33kbps modem. Some MMO developers these days probably have no idea what a modem is let alone how best to put client and server data so that the game runs fairly smoothly. These days I suspect that issues that arise in this situation are answered by 'get a better broadband!!!' (just as inability to streamline programing and write tight code has led to 'buy a better pc!!').
