Having played from the earliest times of DAoC, I can say that the "zerg wars" were quite fun yes.
But as a regular player, play each day, always want to play, always want some action, you don't want to go sit in apk odins/emain and see if someone turns up to group with you.
Most of the RvR guilds are made so there's easily people to group with, the "we wanna pwn all" attitude is hardly there. It's just a lot easier to get some regular people to group with and get some experience together rather than everyone just going to whichever place and RvR with the people there, it's just frustrating and you usually end up on your own.
Guild RvR is the best, one guild is more active than the other, and the active ones will gain more experience and become some of the better guilds when talking about RvR performance.
Also, playing with guild is a lot more fun than with a zerg, of which half doesn't listen and people leave/join all the time.
