3060 price has gone down quite a bit in the last week... now at £540 ish, which given what it was before, is quite reasonable.

Seems stock on OCUK of 3080 Ti's is ok, although with the cheapest being £1400 up to £1800 that is ultimately 3x PS5s/Xbox X.

3070 Ti's £800+.

A 1060 is still acceptable for 1080p gaming at moderate settings but not much more.

They are dumping 3x atm, since the arse fell out of crypto, wait a few weeks.

Edit, and to answer your question, 10x series isn't that bad, I'm still on a 1080ti and running 4k fps on most 2k 60fps on others...but don't really give much of a shit about AAA titles that need the power, mostly because they have the gameplay of my kitchen sink when we haven't bothered washing up in a few days.

I'm not doing much gaming these days, though I do have an iRacing sub still... monitor is nothing flash either, so for a token amount (he's my son, after all... many Dads will get that) I may just go for it.....

There's going to be a ton of second-hand GPUs floating around soon because Ethereum mining is going to stop being a thing in about 3 weeks (nothing to do with "tHe ArSe FaLlInG ouT oF cRypTo" ffs) so yeah, if it wasn't your son I'd tell you to hold on but for his sake (he's not likely to get very much at all for it otherwise) you may as well take it off him.

Yeah, that's just ignorant "PC Gamer" nonsense. Miners typically look after their cards better than gamers - they undervolt them because all they want is the VRAM (the GPU itself isn't used at all), they flash custom BIOSes to alter the timings and voltages to make them as efficient as possible, they're running 24/7 so the risks of heat cycles affecting the silicon/solders/etc are vastly reduced, they sure as shit don't overclock them (which is the single most dangerous thing you can do to a graphics card). Once the original BIOS is back on the card it's more often than not functionally as good as new. The only part that might fail with lots of use is the occasional fan.

There are definitely cards to avoid (those with GDDR6x memory for a start) and there are risks attached but assuming you know what you're looking for, do some research and take precautions (get them to share 3D Mark scores and diagnostics info, buy through sites that offer protection etc) there are going to be bargains to be had (especially if the requirement is just a capable graphics card) and those cards will last for years. I sold dozens of cards (clearly advertised as ex-mining) a couple of years ago (some to miners but mostly individually to gamers) and I didn't have a single dissatisfied buyer.

Nobody needs these cards, the bar for "graphics" is much lower, thanks to consoles. Again, fuck'um. Do Not Buy.

Sadly, the market is flooded with "cheap" cards as much as it is flooded with idiots.

I have an old RTX 570... son stumped up for a new card so I got his 1060ti for peanuts... good enough for what I do these days (yeah, mostly just p0rn :) )
