Roleplaying-games

NWN is the best game on offer for role-playing. Played with a group of friends and a DM it is as close as you'll get to pencil and paper (which is where the genre started after all). As for cheating - who on earth would cheat in a game with no win / lose criteria? Its a bit like cheating at crossword puzzles.

But for a REAL alternative MMORPG check this one out:

I just looked at http://lionheart.blackisle.com/screens.html

Is that a MMORPG?

If i had a million dollars, i would make Baldurs Gate 2 MMORPG, it would give much profit, im sure :)

Great quests, great classes, great roleplay, great thought through, no insta mez, insta heal, insta stun, etc. .. bg2

Oh ye.. and stealth can be removed by Truesight-spell, mages get :).. also if u should get attacked by some tank, u can trigger cast lvl 5 and beneth-spells, which gives protection vs. ranged-weapons, magic-weapons, etc.

Loooove it.

Q: What kind of game is Lionheart?
A:Lionheart is a computer role playing game for the PC. In Lionheart you will create a single character and play through a story.

:(

Bg2: MMORPG > All

Would be cool, with new quests every month, new weapons, npcs, etc. .. (not like slow daoc :()

Anyone wonna go play baldurs gate 2? :) .. Could make a multiplayer-game, and play a few hours each week.

If anyone interested post here, i'll be a wizard/priest.. or just wizard :)

Will you be able to randomly find items, and if so, will these items be classified as in Diablo II (Rare, Unique, etc.)?
Monsters will have treasure that characters can loot, but these will be drawn randomly from a specific item class for that monster type. We do not expect to have the same vast amount of random items as in the Diablo series, but we will have items that are rare and even some that could be truly unique by limiting them to only one per server.

Hehehe :p

Is Blizzard aware of some of the game play problems that have been prevalent in other MMORPGs?
Yes. Blizzard employees are gamers first and foremost, and we have played more than our fair share of existing Massively Multiplayer games. We tend to agree with MMORPG gamers on the strengths and weaknesses of the genre to date. We will strive to advance the genre by both building on its positives and improving its negatives.

I wonder if they talk about unbalance & nerf? Oo

you've all fairly much covered the D&D style RPG's here

but does anyone here have any feedback on Earth and Beyond ?.

I've always been a sucker for space sim type games, and u get to design and build your own starships.

the screens look very nice, but unfortunately I found out about it long after beta test had finished.

KLMFAOOOOOOOOOOO

baldurs gate was this biggest pile of bollock juice i've ever played. total crap. worst game i think i've ever played to be honest. so boring, set on tracks, no freedom atall. nothing like good rpgs like fallout 1/2 where u are 200% free to do anything u want, theres no guide lines. with baldurs gate when i played it i felt i had to follow a path of the game, which i hated.

put it this way, any game u can complete, is rubbish.

a friend of mine completed baldurs gate and if i remember correctly, that was it. he was finished lol. rubbish.

any offline rpg is a bit shit simply because rpgs are meant to be played with hundreds of real people. going all the way back to table top role playing, where u obviously need other people to role play with, gaming is the same imo.

baldurs gate is SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT,

nuff said.

kinda agree with karam on the no freedom and stuff in game, not played bg tho so i cant comment on that.
best offline rpg ive played is by far arcanium, there are so many different ways to go through it its insane
ive been through it bout 6 or 7 times and every time has been completly different
its got a point system kinda like daoc where u can make a completly unique character but there are loads more spec lines (something like 8 stats, 16 skills and 16 schools of magic which works out at about 80 spells)
its got elves in it too

To this ppl who was Baldurs gate .. offline rpg .. is shit:

If u ppl think u know "oh so much" about roleplaying-games, why do u even play daoc if u are looking for something more... "roleplay"?

DAoC has 3% roleplay, 97% hack'n'slash.

A roleplaying game is being created, cos NPCs are being personified into humanbeings. You are walking into an inkeep, you hear fights, ppl discussion loud, yelling, dogs barking, mugs being thrown down in the table, etc.

Tell me where DAoC even gets CLOSE to bg2?

- The NPCs tell a bad story, without any speach, this is a ROBOT, you can't just say:

"Screw u! U are going down!"

Or be the nobel knight:

"Sorry m'lord, that has no interest"

In baldurs gate, or any other ad&d, you can take the role as the person u like. Form him/her with speach, and action.
You can get into fights with the guards, and that later on CAN change the story.. so that the Cowled Wizards will help you less or more.

You ppl know nothing about roleplay, if u still me that Baldurs Gate 2 suck..

oh .. and btw, Baldurs Gate 2 nominated: Roleplaying Game of the year.

you cant roleplay against npcs. it doesnt work, because they only have a very limited number of replies etc, its not asiff you can say anything like what you'd like to. if you want THAT kind of roleplaying online, go play a MUD/MUSH or something, ok they are INSANELY sad, but they promote all that "yes me lord" crap.

i've only played a couple of the ultima series, but i've heard all of them are great. i've played and completed both fallout games, many times.

and morrowind i didnt play that much, but for the time i was playign it, i enjoyed it far more than BG, simply because it had so much more freedom.

For my money Planescape: torment was the best roleplaying game for 1 player on the PC. It had some very different paths and responses to your actions and was more interesting than the typical RPG. However, I still am very fond of Ultima 7 (with all the addons), that was absolutely awsome. Like people have mentioned though, the Baldurs gate games where good as where the Fallout games. I reckon NWN is probably pretty good with a DM and some proper roleplayers but its more of a tool or framework than a standalone game.

And if you fancy something a bit older I recommend Ultima underworld 2.. If you can put up with the ancient technology that was one hell of a game.
