It's a bloody joke, and pretty much profiteering. The insurance companies say it's to cover the cost of personal injury claims, yet they are the ones that sell (yes for money) our details to the scummy claim firms.

Yes - this is where the whole industry becomes an immoral joke and why the govt should get involved - not that they will ofc.

Yep, and when it's pissing down with rain I'm really going to feel like riding to work and slogging through a shift while soaked...

I wouldn't blame you, but it really doesn't rain in this country quite as much as people think, and a 10 minute ride in good wet-weather gear will not soak you to the skin. In fact you'd have a wet face and nothing more.

It was really bad for young people in Ireland like 8-9 years ago, Quotes like 7000 euros for insurance on a 1500 euro 1.4 litre hatch for an 18 year old, it improved alot, 1st year i was insured at 23 it cost 1100 which was acceptable then second year 450 which was a nice suprise since then it has risen from 450 to 700 on 3rd year and now it is creeping near 850 on my 5th year driving. Bear in mind i have not had one accident and im driving a 1.4 litre family car (Skoda Octavia, does it get any more responsable?).

It's just a case of keep pushing just a little bit to see how far you can get.

Because they don't even really need their car if they only use it once or twice a week.. well maybe in some rare cases..

If people actually use their cars and it works out better to use their car than to get a bus or train then yeah, go for it...... but you don't need a car to go to the shop once a week..

I don't get what you are basing this on, a personal assumption that because you see a car parked outside a house in the evening that it is obviously not being used ?

I'm seriously considering buying a car purely so I can drive to fields and fly my model aircraft.

It's obvious when cars don't move at all etc.. also quite a few members of my family do the exact same... and my next door neighbour :D

I also know a few people on line who admit to doing that, but they say they want to keep their car.. as they want to have a car to have one. simple.

So because they don't use their car often, thus keeping the roads clearer, and saving them money, and saving (allegedly) the environment, you want to increase the cost of owning a car? What exactly is your point? You don't seem to have one.

Wouldn't you be better off getting 3 busses to that field and grinning manically as you hold your model plane at everyone who passes you, make the right impression !

Actually you are clearly a trolling twat Keitz, it's more and more obvious. Fuck me, penalise everyone because some people you know just buy a car to have it sit on their drive. What a well thought out argument there.

Yeah sorry I don't know everyone who is currently alive to know if they also do the same :S

I went a little over the top with this really, I admit.. but most drivers just really piss me off how they don't think about people crossing roads etc... down to the local council as well really to install traffic lights and stuff like that I guess.

Some places are built for cars only it seems.. local B&Q/KFC/McDonalds etc is a total nightmare for it.. can literally stand there for 10-15 minutes and not be able to cross.. about 5-10min walk down the road to the nearest traffic lights too...

Do you drive?

You do realise that cars have right of way on the road, not pedestrians? It's dangerous to stop for pedestrians to let them cross at anything but a zebra crossing, you can't predict as a driver what traffic around you will do. If pedestrians aren't crossing at actual crossing, islands, zebra's, lights etc, they are putting their own life at risk.

Also if it is a multiple lane road and you let someone on that road and there is no island you are putting that person/persons at risk of being knocked down in the middle of one of the other lanes not to mention the fact that when travelling at speed if you stop you could well get rear ended or someone behind you will swerve and mount the pavement you were just standing on, petition your council for a bridge overpass or more traffic lights/islands on 4 lane roads.

People can't cross if cars don't stop.. it's dangerous yeah but so are a lot of things..

It's more the council's fault than people who drive.. but still drivers could be a little kinder in some situations :)

Dude will you read what i posted, drivers arent a hive mind we don't know what each other are thinking so all we can do is keep distance with the car infront of us and hope everybody does the same, im suprised hundreds of people don't die on the roads every day, but keeping to the one rule and staying between the lines helps, your just gonna have to wait 5 minutes more for that Big mac and live a long and happy life rather than me doing something stupid/dangerous to let you cross, sorry about that

Did you just read what either myself or Punishment posted? It doesn't seem like it. Drivers should certainly not stop to allow people to cross... it's putting the pedestrians life in danger.

In an area where the average car probably goes 15-20mph? to get to the other side of the road in one place I'm thinking about is an extra 15-20minutes walk.. easily..

I see plenty of people stop all the time, it's just sometimes people don't bother.

I'm not talking about some kinda motorway here...

I havn't read all of this thread but people are also not thinking about the bigger picture here...

People need a car for the most basic things like shopping in a superstore like (tesco's/Sainsburies/Asda) etc... If you dont have a car how the hell you going to get there and take the shopping back.

I work from home now and I use my car to take my other half to work and pick her up. Aslo use my car to do deliveries for companies and ofcourse to do food shopping.

So people saying you dont need a car is utter shit tbh

Apologies if that wasn't aimed but me btu I'll assume it was. I did quantify it by saying I don't know the exact figure but then I just look at the sardines during rush hour. So in the event it was aimed at me, kindly fuck off.

Yes, it was funnily enough. OK, I'll quantify this: I don't know the exact figure, but I'm sure you're 100% full of bullshit.

Well it's probably more like 20-30max :p but it's a busy road which forks off the A2...

I dunno Amphrax, it seems people on here live in the middle of nowhere.. I must be lucky since I have a train station + two supermarkets (20-25min walk then £4-5 back in tax with shopping if need be).. but on line shopping ftw? quite close..

Obviously I didn't realise it was so bad for people :D

The only exception is the disabled.

Honestly this threat took a huge detour.

Saying you don't need a car is extreme, you probably don't NEED one to live, but its too cheap/convenient compared to public transport/taxis.

As said before, I can get to town and park for cheaper than getting a bus. Logic government.

You do realise that the tesco delivery van might also have to use the road while your trying to pass for your Big mac right ?

I could get to the supermarket for 50p, why pay £4-5 for a taxi every week?
