mmmm interesting thread.

What people dont seem to realise is that this forum has gone through a natural process called EVOLUTION.

Times change - people come and go, bringing different points of view and different

Times change. Accept it. Live with it.

However, I do agree with a lot of what has been said. When I first joined it was fun. You got to know the individualities of the ppl in the forum and get to "know" them in a cyber sort of way.

TDC, Wij, Someguy, Waz, Lead Nibbler etc who were here for a laugh and had a sense of humor similar to mine)

Perp - who had a unique personality all of his own (but still managed to help out sometimes)

And, like every forum, you had the fuckwits. I wont name them cos everyone knows who they are. (I might even be a fuckwit to someone - I CARE NOT)

But, what was good about these forums is you can (more or less) post whatever the FUCK you want.

You might of noticed that I dont post here much know - cos I am involved in another Forum where it is superstrict. Half of the posts on this forum would be banned within seconds.

One last thing - this is a public forum - you get out what you put in.

u guys are taking the piss, but Perps right, every thread eventually dilutes itself into some mindless pile of spam crap. Why? because they closed the original m00 thread & let you all out into the rest of the forums, there are strong comparisons between this & the "mental patient" care in the community systems or.....

Who released the nutters?

Getting rid of ALL user post counts, and user "classes" (Deity, Earther etc) will go a LONG way to helping cure the spam imo.

Are you saying that all the spamming deities (I mean that in the nicest possible way ;)) are only posting nonsense to get their post count up?

Subscribe to a forum clicking the link in the top right, it then appears on your profile page m8, forgot that earlier soz.

Try setting up a channel on IRC for all u *unfers*/*splurgers*/etc then (#quake2.uk anyone ;)) nobody objects to peeps havin fun m8, its when every thread turns into one no matter what it gets annoying

I've just been reading all of this thread... and it's very interesting reading. It also seems everyone with the exception of Ch3tan has grasped the right end of the stick and showed intelligent debate and opinions.

Though I disagree with starting up threads like 'Good Morning' or 'It's the weekend, yay!' for inane discussion that IRC was invented for, the general forum is more an online social community than just an information database, comedy show or debate contest (although it can be all three...).

I also think removing 'forum diety' status would be a good idea. Atm it seems like just a reason for people who post more to impose themselves as elite upon newer or less frequent members. /me glares at DBs...

At the end of the day, though, don't let the minority spoil it for you. If you want to flame some retards visit the Quake2 Forum.

I agree.

I have to laugh when I read posts by the uber-spammers lamenting the fact that so many people spam, as they once did (though of course they don't do it anymore so that's alright then!).

There are some pretty good threads here, but the majority are completely forgettable :sleeping:

I'm pleased to see Perplex back to his normal self (have you quit smoking again Perp?), though it seems his double act with stu- is a thing of the past. Their posts were rude, in bad taste, and insulting in the extreme... which is what made them so enjoyable.

But... at the end of the day, if you want intelligent debate, then Barrysworld shouldn't be the first place that springs to mind :rolleyes:

Resetting the post count and erasing the titles wouldn't be that bad I suppose. (Allow you to type your own custom titles.) But erasing everything in the General Forum and starting over would do nothing. Some people have an urge to spam (me included). Every 'Morning' and 'Weekend' and pimping thread would begin to pop up again. A good idea would be to create a 'nonsense' forum to put all the spam and crazy stuff in. Also (if it's possible), if there is a lame pimper who creates a thread, if it gets, say, 10 votes it should be deleted.

:) It was a cunning ploy by myself to get a decent discussion out. Notice the lack of homo-erotic *UNF!!!111111* and "SPLOOOGE!!!" and "ZZZZIP!!11111111" all over the show

Not at all. I used to enjoy checking into the forums at work, read some interesting threads, get into a nice debate. Now I look at the general forum for about a minute, sigh at the 9 to 1 ratio of shite-pointless-spam started threads, and close IE. :(

No, he means children like bigbb, daf et al will stop posting utter drivel to try and boost their forum status, and exor is actually right. Unfortunately, things like post counts and statuses help to increase the long term appeal of a forum, and as BW obviosuly want people to stay, they will not remove those features totally. Shame, I've always said quality, not quantity

For me, the forum has been deteroirating for some time. (fuck off about the spelling, I've just woken up) I've made this no secret, this is largely to the diminishing interest in Online gaming and then Gaming completely (I left general online gaming soon before it went to pot - and anyone that cant see that its gone this way is blind, or a newbie) We generally don't get many intelligent threads that interest me. The ones we do get, generally involve computery bits like graphics cards, which I gave up caring about with the death of interest in gaming. Personally, I'm far more at home talking about music or visual media, outside gaming. I'm not going to bother proposing a music or tv forum, because thats not what this forum is about. But I'd bet a fair amount of you have interests that are in realms outside of gaming.

There was a point to this post too, but its gone the way of the Dodo.

Ah, here's where it all falls down though.

Euthanasia doesn't interest me highly as a topic of discussion, admittedly it was probably quite intelligently put out, but there we are. I don't want a part of it. I don't have to be, so I wasn't. I should'nt have to reply to every intelligent thread just to make out that I want intelligent content. Tdc's point about intelligence and content being in the eye of the beholder is a good summary. Alas.

That's exactly what I'm saying.

How often have you seen posts, even threads, about becoming a Deity and the like, how many more posts they have to get, how long it's taken....followed by a load "splooodges and unfs" to increment their post count.

I've seen it loads, if you haven't I'm not sure what forum you've actually been reading.
