Voting yes. Not that the voting system really works either way. We still end up with corrupt scumbags whoever wins, however they win.

I'm voting no because AV isn't a better system. I don't see the point in changing the system just for the sake of changing it. If they'd actually put forward proposals that would result in real reform then i'd probably vote yes but they haven't.

Voting yes, if it takes the edge off huge majorities and makes the parties work together more then I'm all for it.

There are some arguments to voting no, ie we vote in a government then the government does what we want, but how'd that work for us under labour? and I'm sure some would say how's that working for us right now?

I probably won't vote. Our democracy is a sham anyway. The only thing that really makes a difference is our economic system.

If I was to vote, it'd probably be yes, because although AV is shite, it's better than FPTP.

You realise our economic system is shit because our political system is a bit wank, so a small improvement in one might help the other?

Looks like the No vote is massively ahead in the polls, but how many will actually be arsed turning up?

No for me ... unless you have to take an IQ test before you vote and be certified cognitant enough to be able to give a 1,2,3,4 answer

1 is enough for most people

myself and the wife will be voting yes. As with some of the people above a small change to get the partires working more closely together can't be a bad thing.

Yes from me because I've seen a form of AV in action for the Welsh Assembly elections.
It's not clean or pretty, but it makes the parties negotiate and compromise on their more extreme or forceful policies.

We have a saying in our country, which goes like this:

"The country burns, and the old lady combs her hair."

I think it sums this up perfectly.

It must be something lost in translation then!

If I looked elsewhere and saw better governments through PR type systems I might be inclined to say "yes" but I don't; in fact I think rather than creating an atmosphere of co-operation between parties, I think it creates a culture of cronyism; the political class just becomes more monolithic as it simply absorbs opposition.

I don't know at the moment. I don't actually think AV is the best way to solve this problem.

Don't like the current system, don't really like AV. As above, I'm undecided.

And to everyone who says they dont vote because our democracy is a sham:

you're fucking assholes. Get up off your arses and vote and MAYBE DEMOCRACY WILL WORK A BIT FUCKING BETTER. I have no time for abstainers. If you want to register dissatisfaction, write C U N T on the paper and leave.

Would that count as a vote for Ed Miliband or David Cameron?

Parties working better together is a nice idea provided their economic ideals match. What if they don't? Britain may lack the dynamic response it needs to survive, especially early post-Great Recession.

To be honest, they should have spent MORE money on proposing this change. It's pretty fuckin' big for UK politics and all I've had through the door is a hugely biased leaflet to vote no.

Some of the BS I have heard around this is great (not from here)... "Don't vote AV! The BNP will get lots of seats!!" etc

AV wouldn't lead to any increase in bnp seats.

I think one of my main+ points for voting no would be that we elect a government that then enacts it's manifesto.
The problem with that is the government we elect typically has around 34-45% of the vote, not exactly a mandate from the people to enact a strong manifesto.

Our economic and governmental systems aren't intertwined any more IMO.

You don't get it Chilly.

I've spoiled my ballot many a time before now. However, I've come to the realisation that the only thing I'm really bothered about voting on we can't vote on.

Labour. Conservative. Lib Dem. Doesn't fucking matter really.

I'm not "dissatisfied". I'm just not a mug. Us plebs aren't allowed to vote on anything important and even if we were, our government isn't powerful enough to be able to do anything about it...

We don't live in a real democracy. How exactly can a sham work better?

I'll vote yes, haven't thought about it in years but did an essay on it in college and wholeheartedly agreed with AV
