Actually it lasted longer since that mic picked the peak only and he/she came back again 5 minutes later upon which I continued to hear it at a lower level as they raced along assorted back roads, which is highly annoying when you're trying to get to sleep. Add in the fact it seems excessively noisy and popping exhausts are becoming rather common.

Pops and bangs are for kids, and shouldn't happen on a proper engine map, except for stupidly high end-driven badly.
We have similar here, decent 2-3 mile straight, wide country road.
I've ragged it a few times, it comes out of a 30, has a dip, and a rail bridge over the top, peak acceleration is under the bridge, makes my little hot hatch sound like Mad Max's car, I imagine the beemers sound divine.
