Even though ours has started going out again after the move, we've left his litter tray indoors as he doesn't go out at night any more, plus if we don't he takes a shit at the side of the conservatory.

I'll let him off though as we had to rush the poor guy to the vet on Monday as he was clearly struggling to breathe :( Vet found he had an enlarged heart and fluid on his lungs. Now he has to have medication 3 times a day - and there is nothing easier than giving a cat medication....

Towel m8. Wrap him in a big towel with just his head showing. Hold him under your arm (easier if you're sat with him on your lap). Thumb and middle finger at the side of his mouth, pop the pill in - right to the back of his mouth.

Hold mouth shut, tilt head back, stroke his throat. Will swallow.

My old cat was a bitch of the highest order with pills until we got that down pat. Whole thing can take less than 30 seconds.

Firefox (again)
Firefox (again) (again)... *sigh*

Downloads now work like Chrome/Edge 😐

I really wish someone could get across to Mozilla that the reason people use Firefox is only one of 2 things:
  • It came by default with their linux distribution
  • They don't want to use Chrome or a variant thereof

They seem to add more unnecessary stuff each release.

Assuming you mean the download panel popping up whenever you download something (which I noticed too) - set browser.download.alwaysOpenPanel to false in about:config.

Also, set browser.download.improvements_to_download_panel to false to put things back to how they used to be (until they remove the flag, of course).

He's insured, but it is going to need a huge amount of rehabilitation.
Wow. 5k is crazy :(

Only cat I had which required a cast I was going out with a vet nurse at the time. So lucky me I guess.

Well, we were at £600 at point of Xray, another 4k for surgery tomorrow then sundries.

I guess I am being American for a little while, but instead of a human family member, I have a feline family member.

Ah right so it has a cap on the cost, I see...

I'd imagine full coverage is £loldear.

The insurance cap is £5k, but we would go above that, he really is family.

Funny thing about going into a vet for expensive stuff, they are really keen to know your limits and really quite good at getting close to it. ...which I guess is what Americans feel like when going to the doc.

You don't see vets driving Porsches. Vet bills are what we'd all be paying if we didn't have an NHS.

I've literally seen a vet driving a Porsche. In fact when my parents had a cat their vet had a Ford RS200 Group B car, the only one I've ever seen on the road. Vets do just fine.

Vet company owners do amazing. The vets mostly do very well too but if you run a business, you rake it in.

To help with your "cost of living" crisis, because inflation's running at 6% we're going to make sure you pay more for your mortgage, so you've less money to spend.

Meanwhile, the money you do have - and all the wealth you've ever earned in your life - is going to be eroded in value by this inflation.

And if you're dumb enough to save your money in a bank, it includes that to.

Thankyouvery much #AngloDutchBankingSystem.

Glad I locked mine in a few months ago. By the time the fixed rate expires we'll only have a year left on the mortgage.

One thing this inflation is doing is changing the ROI calculation on heat pumps and solar, even a few months ago there was no economic case for a heat pump, there is now. So silver lining?

I don't see that panning out for Heat Pumps to be honest given the electricity requirements for Air Source the jumps in costs there are probably going to wipe out any gains.

Solar on the other hand seems like the better hand. It'd be interesting to see how it offsets the price hikes.

For a new build that's been designed with them in mind, possibly. For those of use in older stuff that would need substantially ripped apart to fit bigger radiators, underfloor heating and cavity wall insulation? Not in the slightest.

I'll stick with our gas boiler (and stove and oven) for now - still far cheaper to run than the electric stuff, and bizarrely our old draughty 1930s semi is proving easier and cheaper to keep warm than the mid 00s property we moved out of.

The fact that gas ovens make far nicer food than their electric cousins is just icing on the cake.
