E-Books.

My entire dissertation is based on a book which costs £800 or £8 - Hardback or E-book.

Obviously I opted for the E-book.

No page numbers.

Can't, have to use page references, funny thing, there's only one copy of this book in the library at Uni, and everyone loves it, it's bullshit.

Are you using an actual kindle, or just a kindle app on a tablet or pc? If it's a proper kindle, I don't know about other models, but on the paperwhite, you can touch the bottom left corner, and toggle a display for time remaining in chapter, page number or location. The location is the best one to use for referencing ebooks, as it's not dependant on the font size being the same. I'm not sure how you'd get that on any other kindle readers or apps, but I'm sure there must be a way somewhere.

I'm using an Android tablet.

I'm going to see if my mums Kindle has the ability to get page numbers but aparrently its totally down to the book publishers.

I've just checked the android kindle app, if you press the bottom left corner, it will show the location, which should be acceptable for referencing an ebook.

Nope, can't reference locations, which is bullshit, because apparently, its a lot more accurate than page numbers.

Reading around, the publisher has to put page numbers in; if they exist you can get them in the menu. However, if they're not there, try exporting the file with Calibre, which can apparently then pick up page numbers.

Windows 10 product key is stored online, reinstallation of the OS shouldn't be a problem.
Sorry to hear about the crash though.

It turns out the SSD wasn't broken and it was a corrupt windows installation preventing it from booting up. I've no idea how it happened, maybe a error in a windows update? Every repair option didn't work and the new SSD came through the post today so I did a clean install of windows 10 on a different SSD and windows 10 activated on it's own, I don't know how as I didn't log in or anything. Maybe it read the product key from the other SSD? Also hats off to Google with their sync features. Everything including all my extensions, bookmarks, settings etc all got imported and set up on it's own. Impressive.

I think I have angered the travel Gods. After last week's shenanigans with Easyjet, I had the French ATC strike yesterday, and now thanks to some idiot Snackbars, I'm stranded in Tours.

Could be worse - Tours is a nice city, especially the old square bit, go there, and get drunk. :)

Actually the first place I ever got drunk. Weird, we were only talking about this at work yesterday. 13 years old, school trip, shops that sold fizzy wine to kids, awesome. Followed by vomiting and recriminations and forced wearing of school uniforms for the guilty for the rest of the trip.

Public transport. I leave one leg of my journey to the train (albeit French trains) and I arrive home a day late, and now I have a disease. Feel all achey and cold, and it's making smoking a right pain in the arse.

Still on the plus side it might get me out of having to go to a lesbian wedding tomorrow.

That's real life lesbians, not the ones you see on the Internet...

I have the worst flu ever at the moment, I've been absolutely floored since Monday. Achey and cold sounds about right, along with instant stabbing headache (albeit only momentary) whenever I cough or swallow and, hilariously, a constant itch in my throat which leads me to either cough or involuntarily try to swallow.
