Was supposed to have been in bed at least an hour ago, but I just cannot stop binge watching Breaking Bad again.. Why is this show so good? I seriously doubt that I'd be as hooked to GoT 2nd time around

Samsung. It turns out my TV has a proprietary version of HDMI-CEC called Anynet+ that can only communicate with other Samsung devices. What a load of Apple-esque bollocks.

Um, Anynet+ works with non-Samsung devices for me; talks to my Panasonic BD player and Roku anyway (my STB is Samsung)

Oh. Well, I don't know, I was going off of what the TV's manual and a support page on Samsung's website and this:
One thing to remember when using this system is that it only works with Anynet®-equipped Samsung® products. Not all Samsung® products come with this technology. Though other electronics manufacturers also offer similar HDMI-CEC-based home entertainment networking functions, they generally do not work interchangeably. Some incompatible HDMI-CEC-based devices can disrupt Anynet+™ devices unless the function is disabled.
My LG Blu-ray player shows up in the Anynet+ list and I can connect to it but the TV's remote does nothing on the home screen. My Sky+ HD box also shows up in the list but the TV can't even connect to that. I see that they've just been careful how they've

My TV is the UE55C6000 so it's very much un-smart, do you just pick the HDMI-CEC device from the source list?

I know I can get a HDMI-CEC adapter for the NUC, I guess I will give that a go. The box is going to be stuffed behind the TV so, although it has an IR sensor, I won't have line of sight to it. There seems to be an array of IR blasters and extenders etc on the market, I'd quite like a Logitech Harmony 350 or something.
Presumably, the clue is in the name?
Perish the thought that a company would give one of its technologies (or its rebranding of someone else's technology) a warm, cozy, all-encompassing name and then impose limits on what can and can't be done with it.

Shuddup, @dysfunction. :(

Only companies that have either an army of idiots who will buy any old tat regardless of what it is or a company that doesn't understand the market.

For anynet to work, the other device must also have HDMI-CEC

You wouldn't complain if your USB device refuses to work on serial port, would you.

They all have their own version of the same thing, they just call it different things for branding. For example, controlling a PS4 with a samsung TV remote.

My Samsung a LE40C650 decides which devices it wants to work with. The RPi worked with play and pause and nothing else. A Sony Blu Ray does nothing my NowTV has a fair bit of control but no home or Menu button, Sky box gets nothing but Samsung Amp works perfectly. So I suspect only Samsung stuff is fully supported everything else is just if it works it works.

They've reordered it for me, without question.

Good customer service is golden.

Just a shame about their initial response.

'I'm missing something'

'Computer says you're not.'

'Well I am.'

Virgin, on the other hand...

Internet was fucking up last night, and they seem to want to blame everything that I have used, rather than their own shoddy equipment.

'Internet dropped out last night, Wireless & Power Line adapters'

'Its your powerline adapters, it's because there may have been interference over the electricity'

'What about the wireless then?'

It seems shakey at best with non-Samsung devices.

Just to say my Sony TV controls other manufacturers stuff just fine :)

Now if I could just get the Sky remote to adjust the volume on my Yamaha amp. I would be so happy.

Stupid phone systems that transition from music to a "Please continue to hold" message every 30 fucking seconds so you think the fucking thing has been answered. I am going to break my Mute button here.

When you're working from home and an "all hands on deck" opportunity comes through, just about the point that Sky decided reliable internet is not for you. Currently tethered to my phone on 3G and getting twice the speed I do from the fixed line.

This is seriously testing my vow never to give BT any of my money directly ever again....

TO be fair this is the first issue with Sky I've had in over a year, it's just appallingly timed. Feels weird having to use Vodafone 3G as a backup - considering I'm about the only person in the company that can get Voda reception in my house....

Lack of wires causing the issue. What?

Nah, I told the guy that the wireless and wired connections were at fault, ie dont blame the routers ability to wireless Bro, even though it is shit - standard stock Virgin router, not exactly the best reputations, and also that it was wired at fault because I use powerline adapters, so he resorted to saying something on the lines of 'you can get interference which effects your powerline adapters, turning on the heating for instance'

Quite ridiculous really, he was almost implying that I'd never used electricity before yesterday and that caused the issues.

I then said should I buy a new router to which he responded with 'what model and make are your powerline adapters'

My apologies to Sky, the internet was fine, it's the fucking shitcunt mange infested cum dribbling Marxist dogwank donkey raping shit eating Powerline Adapters. They work fine for about 5 minutes, then all wired connections through them drop to Limited Connectivity, then 10 minutes later they start bringing the entire network down.

Bags of fucking wank! And they're made by BT too! (Someone else paid).

I like it how we're experiencing the same thing on pretty much the same day, comrade.

Indeed comrade, it must be a sign that we are due for a great grain harvest, which will boost tractor production to unforseen levels!

To be fair I had this issue about a month ago with my old Netgear Powerline adapters, as they were connecting to next door instead of the other adapter downstairs. I thought the BT ones had fixed that as hadn't had an issue in a month, obviously not. And from what I can see, there's no way with the BT adapters to change the encryption key! Awesomesauce!

I'm a bit lost to how powerline adapters can go faulty tbh, wouldn't that be on a par with your electrics their selves going faulty?

This is interesting.

@Bodhi @Gwadien - I've been having on and off issues with my Devolo triple power line adaptors where they just suddenly "stop", my PC reports no internet connection (not "a cable has been unplugged") which returns after a couple of minutes. I'm starting to suspect they're faulty.

Recommendations?

I know with ours it appears that our house is wired up on the same ringmain as next door, so there appears to be some crosstalk going on - with my old Netgears, all their devices appeared in my Windows Explorer, and 192.160.0.1 took me to their router, rather than mine. All good fun!

However if yours have worked for ages and have suddenly stopped, I really don't see it being a wiring fault.

When I said I was suffering with the same thing, I wasn't really, but it was the first thing that Virgin accused me of, it's funny, when you ring Virgin up, you get an option;

A. Is it stuff we provided?

Yes, We'll have a look what we can do, if not, it's probably the stuff we didn't provide.

B. Is it stuff we didn't provide?

Fuck off then.

If it's regular enough, what you could do is plug them all into an extension cable (Or a triple wall socket, if you have one) and then just sit there and watch them, literally, you can see if their connection with each other is going faulty that way, without getting the internet involved.

It could be like watching paint dry though.

See, the lights never go out / change / go red. My PC just seems to lose connection. Especially annoying when I'm 0wning on de_dust2 deathmatch.
