I'm not arguing for argument's sake - but evidence shows that in many ways it can - in terms of risk compensation by both cyclists and drivers and lowered awareness and thinking time.im just pointing out that wearing a helmet does not hinder your ability to cycle safely
I know, personally, that wearing a helmet makes things a lot harder for me - especially on hot days - so whilst my personal observation isn't statistically significant it is in line with the evidence. I'm more aware / less hot and bothered and flustered whilst on a bike without a helmet.
I regularly do a 60 mile round trip on off-road gentle paths with a few hills to Clumber Park from my house and back. I did it once with a helmet. Just once. Never again. Fucking hated it. I'm a head-sweater so maybe I'm just more prone to being affected by 'em - but I definitely am.
It doesn't make me more likely to jump in front of traffic. But it definitely makes it me more likely to make stupid mistakes.
