He takes an opposing view because he knows it will get a reaction and when replying to posts (especially when it's a post calling him up on something) he cherry-picks his quotes and looks for niggling little semantic bits that he can pick apart, he's not replying to the post in general. Like I said, it's never a discussion with him.

It's better for the person who (knowingly and deliberately, as he himself said above) derails threads and pisses people off to stop doing that than it is to stop people calling him up on it. He has every right to say whatever he likes but everybody else has similar rights to tell him he's talking bollocks. I'm sure I remember at least a few times where he has said he won't do the trolling bit any more and yet here we are. Again.

The whole point of a discussion is that there are opposing views. If everyone had the same view there would be no discussion

I can see @caLLous point (two posts up) about always playing devils advocate and taking an opposite view (i don't agree that @old.Tohtori does so, but i can see the point), but you also don't always have to reply to every single post in a discussion. If someone post an opposing view, that you strongly disagree with, IGNORE IT and post your own contribution to the discussion instead.
This site has become nearly impossible to post in, you have to do half an hour research and provide sources for posting an opinion and even then your post tends to get ripped to shreds, multi-quoted to infinity and every sentence picked apart and poked at.

I read almost every thread. As for the "pop at a members parenting skills" I read it as a dumb trolling attempt, you could have chosen to ignore it, but instead you replied. I think it was stupid of Thot to make the remark, but i just ignored it and read the rest of the building shitstorm.

It's also funny that I took a similar dig at Marc and so did Billargh, both in a stupid and friendly way, and yet no blowup.

I actually quite enjoy it. I know my limits (I'd never put down a wood floor by myself again for example) but I'm happy to paint and it appeals to my inner OCD ; good decorating is all about the preparation

I wish I could decorate. It's one of those things I would like to know how to do but I'm quite horrible at it. It is also one of those things that I don't think is worth my time to learn (I don't have a real interest in it) so unless I get a magical eureka moment I'll just leave it to the wife

I'm quite sure there are programs that uses the floorplan and can do all that. There are some free programs online, but nothing that looks super professional and also very limited. Ikea Kitchen planner is pretty cool if you want to build an Ikea kitchen.
I used some free online tool when me and the missus was planning what to do with a spare room and it spit out a .jpg like this:

Just had the week of and helped @russell decorate 3 kids bedrooms. We did all 3 in 6 days, that's painting, wallpapering and assembling new beds and furniture. We were like a machine!!

I put a 10ft X 8ft space scene mural on the wall in her boys room, it looks awesome

I like decorating when it comes to interior walls but I painted a 3-bay wooden car port a couple of years ago (to protect it, not to make it look fancy) and that was an absolute nightmare. 12 uprights, all sorts of beams and rafters. It took weeks.

I've tried all of those colour planners and room builder tools over the last year (we're about to start work on an extension, if the fucking planning permission ever comes through, so I've spent a LOT of time on kitchen and decor sites), they're all gimmicky rubbish unfortunately. I did find one app that used Google Earth to show where the light falls on your house at different times of day/year. That was quite cool for planning windows etc.

It's a group of people, doing it constantly, year and clock around. No matter if i've been quiet for 2 years, no matter how nice i've been, no matter the topic or comment. Don't bullsh*t that you only treat me like it when i make one of those troll comments.

I just got tired of it and decided that f*ck it, if i'm not going to enjoy my stay, might as well make it fun and miserabe to the assholes.

There's an easy fix to it ofcourse, which i've suggested before; stop being dicks/ratingspamming aholes and taking peoples RL issues into arguments, or ripping into peoples actual problems at all. Start treating others with respect and as fellow humans and suddenly you'll notice there's no more claiming that battery life is connected to parenting skills, or unnecessary comments on your cycling choices. But that will also mean that you lot have no more excuse to fall back on when you're wrong. You know, stop being miserable c*nts. TAking a piss is fine, that's regular forumstuff and banter, but you know the difference.

My wifes had spinny head and vertigo for the last couple of months. She went to ear nose throat doctor and got diagnosed with bppv. Which with a simple procedure on a bed and some exercises is now getting a lot better.

Incredible.Yesterday Googled some exercise I'd been recommended and came up with BPPV. Not heard of it before. I'm a prime candidate i.e. visit to the dentist, previous whiplash etc etc. thankyou anyway. I've tried the manoeuvre and am waiting to see if it helps.

That looks good @Edmond @russell . When we gat home we want to paint 3 bedrooms all white so we can get the rest of our carpet down. I know it's boring but having lived in Spain for years that's what we like. Only trouble is 2nd bedroom was owned previously by a bloke. It's painted navy blue and has about 8 spotlights in the ceiling, really weird. Fraid don't want the agro of removing the spotlights. Think they'll look better once the ceiling is white.

Same bedroom has 2 under eaves cupboards and we said to the carpet people oh just quote for in there too. So big it practically doubled the price. Very kindly they are going to do them with a near miss oddment out their warehouse.

You're like my mother-in-law-to-be, she always has to correct people or have the last word to the point that simple chit-chat is next to impossible with her. Her husband is a very nice man, his opinions are sometimes ill informed or utterly biased, but he's a very sociable conversationalist and he's fun to talk to. She's forever in the background interrupting him over pointless minutiae and always nipping at him to the point he'll stop what he's saying and start arguing with her. The conversation goes off track, and he gets annoyed, so his wife's insistence of correction / interruption just ruins it for everyone. If only she would just let it fucking go, Jesus.
