If you work a 9-5 and are used to receiving work-related calls outside of those hours I bet they could get away with saying your holiday ended at the end of the working day on the Friday. It's cunty though.

First thing i do in a new job is to make sure that workhours are just that. When the office door closes, i'm out and don't exist in the world as far as the workplace is considered

If you have any aspirations about advancing in the workplace (and/or not looking like a complete ass to your colleagues) then that is an awful attitude to have. You may not like it but in today's connected times a little bit of flexibility can go a long way.

Yeah I don't normally mind phone calls in the evening or weekend but after a week of putting my feet up I am suddenly thrust back into work mode and thinking about work stuff the weekend before I go back, I was saving that joy for Sunday evening.

It works both ways, I get time off, off the books now and again for appointments and whatnot, a few hours a month for taking my cat to his Chemo at the vets etc

Still, will save me time on Monday, I have deleted the dross emails, flagged anything important for a follow up and read most of the rest.

Depends a little on the role, in my role there are very few things that absolutely must be done instantly (because of the limitations of some of the systems a few days delay makes almost no difference )

Also my boss is paid a great deal more than me (and has his phone + 4G bill paod by company) to be available 24/7 whereas i am not so if im called outside work hours and it is something other than a quick rrequest for info i will happily say ill deal with it when im at work

I think its quite healthy to leave work worries amd pressures at the door so it doesnt interfere with your personal life tbh

All it meant, not even directed at anyone, is that some people get into a position where they get harassed by work because they can. It's not an either or, take work home or be an ahole, it's just common sense to keep work and free time as seperate as possible.
