Do like me and stop reading what other people write. I seriously scroll right past most pages and threads. I stop when someone got a like, agree, facepalm etc.Everyone having ravens as their profile pictures and actually having to read the name rather than guessing who the post is from by their picture.

Hence all the reposts I make and nonsense drivel
UPP & their monopoly of student halls.
Basically, there's a few NTU student accommodation places in Notts, and they're all mostly owned by a company called UPP, and when it came to returning the deposit (surprise surprise) they're having everyones pants down.
They've charged half of people for a new fridge door because there's a dent or scrape on the door, which is like 100 quid between 6 people, and people are asking for evidence, and they're getting the same picture sent to them, literally, everyone getting the same singular photo of a little mark of the fridge door.
They also charged me for a new desk-lamp, only because I imagine I never used it, it got dusty, and must've broke some how (no idea why)
It's all frankly ridiculous because people can bitch and moan and give them negative feedback, but they own most the student accommodation, so it's not like they can be avoided.
Tbh that's been the same in any rented accommodation I ever lived in. There's always a reason to keep at least part of the deposite. And non student deposits get really big really fastUPP & their monopoly of student halls.

Aye, as I mention, there are schemes that private landlords have to abide, but it seems UPP are exempt to the scheme, which is ridiculous, someone worked out, from my halls alone, they make 450k from rent, if they charged everyone 100 quid deposit, it was another 450k, a healthy bonus. When I was a student in UK the deposit ripoff became so bad the Uni setup a scheme that landlords could join to arbitrate these things on the condition no deposit was taken (any bills sent afterwards could thus be disputed)
We used it once after spending 4 days cleaning the house from top to bottom and taking pictures the landlord tried to charge us 100 / person (10 people in the house)
I think some might have paid it but me and the 3 others who had cleaned told them to piss off and sent them the pics we took on day we left the house and handed in keys and in the end they just dropped it and we didn't pay anything
I've always wondered how that can be legal
Aye, I'm hoping our landlord is the same, he's an old retired bloke with 3 houses, it's cheap and cheerful and I don't think he'll take the biscuit from what I've gathered, avoiding agencies is usually a good move.My first house in my first year at uni had a fantastic landlord/owner. We were the last to live there before he was going to re-fit it so not only did he give our deposits back, we got to rip the place apart before we moved out.
