reading the "Awesome Nerdy stuff" thread and checking out everyones uber coffee machines, and now every website with ad space (pretty much every site) is trying to sell me coffee machines.

And looking at @Big G 's tv cabinet has done the same, lots of ad space filled with oak furniture

Remarketing is the Devil's work. Unfortunately I have to leave it switched on because I actually do the stuff...

Accidentally becoming a wanky beer snob overnight.

I bought some Sierra Nevada pale ale and some high ABV Brewdogs and now I won't touch horse piss beer if my life depended on it.

I suppose it's a good thing, but my beer choice on nights outs has now become extremely limited.

OT: fucking CENTOS thinking it's a good idea to hard-code MAC addresses in to networking files. dude, there was me wondering why the 15 VM's I just cloned didn't work any more :-/

also: the fact that from virt-manager I can change just about everything *except* the name of a disk image and a MAC address. do I really have to use command-line tools for that...? really?

Well you should blame Redhat for that, it was done to ensure interfaces numbers didn't change when added new hardware ethernet cards or extra nics to a VM. Lock the interface to it's mac. Standard practice is to remove the line before cloning.

However if you think that's bad, then look forward to Redhat / Centos 7 and the wonderful new world of systemd and "Consistent Network Device Naming". It's a 100 times worse.

The author of systemd needs to be put in front of a firing squad and shot .... twice, and then stabbed.

OMG, this is going to be so bad. Y'know I did kind of expect it to be in udev's ballpark when I noticed I was getting extra NIC's but this is terribad. What is so screwed up about device enumeration anyway? I mean, just read the MAC's in PCI bus order of device discovery or whatevs. If udev finds a new device in PCI address whatever then it should update itself corresponding to where it found that MAC...or am I just saying something odd now?

You're so fancy and yerpean with your "." instead of the ":". :)

I actually use a 12h clock on my phone/computer/whatnot, confuses the hell out of people trying to look at the time. I just always found it more logical that when the clock is 3 it's 3 and not 15 :p

Never sell. Only buy. ;)

Edit: And stop moving house already ffs!

Wish I had a choice, in either respect. Dublin house prices are going bonkers (even faster than London), which also means rents are going nuts (far more demand than supply for family houses), so when our landlord sold the place we were renting we weren't left with much of a choice. Worst thing is, in a sane universe the money we'd be getting from selling our places in the UK would be a tidy sum, and would buy us a mansion in somewhere like, Navan or Wexford, but in Dublin we'll still need to borrow to get something half-decent (and unlike the UK commuting from outside isn't that practical - it takes ages). So we've had to sell two places in the UK to get one place here (and my flat sale, which should have been simple, has taken forever) while prices skyrocket and everyone we're up against is a cash buyer - you literally have zero chance of sealing a deal if you're in a chain. The only small silver lining is the Pound has gotten progressively stronger against the Euro while this has all been dragging on, so hopefully we'll have a few quid more when we bring our money over.

I have no idea about house prices in Dublin - I'm agreeing about the Euro bit. It's a good time (ok, it's a marginally better time than it was a year ago) to have assets and monies in Engerlund and be living abroad.

If I unplug my phone, it turns off. Started getting really hot a few weeks ago and has just kerplunk.

£50 to replace it under insurance (Xperia Z) or I get a Xperia Z2... Bleh.

On top of that.. I thought I was on a 18 month contract, not 24. That's interesting. So it looks like the £50 for the replacement!

Doing the London>Brighton offroad - because a mate suggested it. Starts at stupidly-early o'clock on the Saturday morning in London and finishes 75 miles (I reckon 10 hours, maybe 12 with food stops - it's MTB, not road bike) later in Brighton.

Suddenly his missus is coming. So not only have my accomodation costs doubled as we will no longer be sharing but the logistics of getting there have suddenly turned to shit too - no wanging both bikes in the back of my car and parking up for a weekend - his missus is driving, her car (refuses to drive his which will fit 2 bikes and 3 people in).

To top it all she's not even doing the ride. She's just there to pretty much fuck things up. And he's already talking about "a few quiet pints" on Saturday night as opposed to going and getting hammered and having a boogie - as has been the plan all along.

Tempted to bin the whole thing off and say "just do it yourself m8" - but I've know the lad since my first year at Uni and we were really close. It's just that in the past couple of years he's become his dad. Like a midlife crisis bloke with an inability to make his own decisions without running everything past his (hard work) missus.

Most of our mates have stopped asking him to do things because he simply never commits. It's like he's got an inability to say yes and/or be an independent person - and he was never like that.

So. Do I pull the plug?
